SBI’s First World Cup Q&A set for 12:30pm today

Good morning folks. I'm coming to you from Johannesburg, where Brazil takes on North Korea later tonight.

I have been in South Africa for a week and while the SBI crew has spent the past week running the show, I will start posting more updates and stories from here now that I have settled in.

That will start today with my first live Q&A from South Africa at 12:30pm today. Get your World Cup, South Africa and general soccer questions ready. I will try to answer as many of them as possible.

Look out for a post on my first week in South Africa later today. For now, keep an eye out for the Live Q&A and be sure to follow my World Cup coverage on FoxSoccer.com.

  1. don’t know how it is with ESPN.. i know in germany they don’t have control and have to take what they are given including replays during the game (the commentators sometimes b*tch about that if they don’t get the replay they like to see) and considering that germany is pretty soccer crazy and the broadcasting stations spend a couple hundred million bucks to broadcast the world cup i would guess that they would be at least on the same level as ESPN but thats just my theory

sorry for my english i hope you understand anyway what i tried to say 😉

  2. Isn’t blaming the Jabulani (or vuvus) just a convenient scapegoat for poor quality? Howard didn’t have any problems with the ball, and neither did Brazil’s attackers.

  3. do you know if ESPN gets all the camera feeds, and then gets to control them from their truck? Im wondering if the commentators have to go with what they are given, ex. replays, or if they have producers letting them know what’s coming.

    Thanks JS

  4. the swiss company HBS (Host Broadcast Services) does the filming and the respectiv broadcaster for each country use their footage just adding some station specific graphics on the way 😉

  5. Does anyone know what the process is for the broadcast of the world cup is? As in, does one company actually do the filming, and then send it through wires to ESPN? Im interested in the details, because it’s seems like a creative solution has always needed to be installed considering the whole world wants to watch it on their respective programs.

I’ll ask Ives today, but just thought I’d see if any Ives’orians knew or had a link!
