MLS West Notes: Kennedy to return for Chivas USA, McCarty facing fitness battle and more

BY ADAM SERRANO

Chivas USA will be able to call on goalkeeper Dan Kennedy for the club's match up against the New York Red Bulls on Saturday. Head Coach Martin Vasquez will require a big performance from his backup goalkeeper as Chivas USA looks to break its recent four-game losing streak.

Kennedy had been unavailable since suffering a muscle strain in his hamstring in early May. League pool goalkeeper Kevin Guppy will back up Kennedy after first choice goalkeeper Zach Thornton was suspended due to a red card in the 90th minute of the Rojiblancos 2-1 defeat to D.C. United on Saturday.

Here are some more stories from around the Western Conference:

McCARTY FACES FITNESS TEST FOR SAN JOSE

FC Dallas midfielder Dax McCarty is questionable for the club's weekend match against the San Jose Earthquakes. The midfielder suffered a hip pointer injury during F.C. Dallas' 1-1 draw vs. the Chicago Fire. McCarty has been training lightly with Dallas and will need to improve quickly before the team takes on San Jose.

SOUNDERS SIGN MICHAEL SEAMON

The Seattle Sounders came to terms on Wednesday with second round draft pick Michael Seamon. The versatile midfielder from Villanova has recently returned to the Sounders after earning his degree in Criminal Justice. Seamon scored his first goal in a Sounders uniform during the 3-0 Sounders victory over Argentine giant Boca Juniors last week.

REAL SALT LAKE TO VISIT WHITE HOUSE TOMORROW

Defending MLS Cup champion Real Salt Lake will get its moment with the President on Friday when the club visits President Barack Obama for the traditional Presidential congratulations. Real Salt Lake will stay in the beltway after the visit for the club's league match against D.C. United on Saturday.

  1. Nice one JJ. But the most homoerotic soccer comment I heard this week came from the San Jose commentator during the game with the Crew. Of Steven Lenhart and his blond afropuff ponytail the announcer said “Lenhart kind of looks like a wild horse out there galloping freely in a pasture.” Lenhart had just made a couple of physical challenges. I almost peed.
