Juan Roman Riquelme has spent the majority of his career with Boca Juniors, but the Argentine playmaker may soon be playing in the Premier League after another club set its sights on him.

Birmingham is currently eyeing the 32-year-old Riquelme, who has never played in the Premiership. The Blues will need to make a tempting offer if they are to land Riquelme, as he stated last week he would prefer to stay with Boca Juniors.

Riquelme is also being linked with West Ham United and Brazilian club Flamengo.

Here are more stories to help get you through the day:

Movsisyan scores in Randers' season opener

Former Real Salt Lake forward Yura Movsisyan got off to a flying start in his second season with Danish club Randers FC, scoring the club's second goal in a 3-2 victory over Brondby. Movsisyan, who came off the bench at halftime, scored in the 70th minute with a left-footed finish after making a well-timed run and faking Brondby's goalkeeper. The goal can be seen here (at the 2:30 mark).

Juarez signs with Celtic

Mexican international Efrain Juarez has signed with Celtic, agreeing to a four-year deal with the club. Juarez has already agreed to terms and just needs to undergo a medical to finalize his transfer from Pumas UNAM. The 22-year-old joins Mexico teammate Pablo Barrera as the second Pumas player to transfer abroad after the latter signed with West Ham United last week.

Thiago Silva's agent claims Real interest

Real Madrid is keen on signing AC Milan defender Thiago Silva, according to the player's agent. The reported transfer fee Real Madrid would offer is estimated to be worth â‚¬15 million, which Silva's agent deems too low.

How do you see Riquelme fairing in the EPL? How badly are you hoping that Movsisyan becomes an American citizen? Highly anticipating the Juarez-Maurice Edu battles when Celtic and Rangers face off? Should Thiago Silva stay at AC Milan?

  1. Movsisyan is definitley a great athlete big strong and fast but a great finisher he is not. You all got a short memory you dont’ remember how many sitters he missed for RSL, theres a reason he comes off the bench. Still good for him, but clamoring for his citizenship is a little premature.

  2. Riquelme is a world class talent, though he’s aged, slower, and more and more of a defensive liability. I believe he plays best in a 3-4-3 as the withdrawn forward in front of the midfield as the linking player.

He is still one of my favorite players to watch. Apparently he and or his entorouge are very tempermental and he loves boca, which i believe is the neighborhood he grew up. I was there a couple of years ago, and attended a match at La Bombanera, he was beloved, and was outstanding that day on the pitch. I’d love to see him back on a world stage or in MLS, but I don’t see it happening.

  3. Seattle goalkeeper Terry Boss tripped Samaras in the box in the 29th minute, and while the ball rolled into the back of the net, referee Paul Ward awarded a penalty kick and sent off Boss instead of playing the advantage much to the dismay of both teams.

  4. Jermaine Jones was back in action too for Schakle 04 over the weekend. I know the WC is over and all, but good to hear “one of the USMNT” is back from being out for a year.

  5. Really? I would prefer that he win the starting position by playing better than those who are above him on the depth chart.

I am not a big believer in handouts.

  6. I’m assuming JRR would have to get an exception to get a WP in England, as he hasn’t played for the Argies in some time. I just don’t see this happening.

  7. I wish riquelme would come to the mls, but he’s the type
of player who would turn down big bucks just to be happy, he was actually gettin paid minimum salary at boca just to help out the financial troubles boca has, a world
class player. That being said I wish la or dc or even nyrb

  8. Juarez makes how many Mexicans who have transfered after the World Cup? I think at least 4 Mexican Internationals have moved to Europe, plus Castillo to Chicago. Am I missing anyone? Very impressive squad they have. They’re going to be a force this cycle.

  9. Riquelme’s been the most underrated player in the world over the past decade, I wish he was coming the the Red Bulls instead

  10. Movsisyan 2014? Does anyone know the deal with his citizenship? If it is in order, he could be an interesting pick for the Brazil friendly. (I live and work in Pasadena, so I have to support the hometown talent)

  11. I remember what it was like having Harkes on my team, and I wouldn’t have scored all of those goals without at solid CAM. With Riquelme as my CAM I could have spent more time in Europe.

  12. In complete agreeance with Mr. Moore. I would love to see RBNY sign Riquelme over Marquez. The disaster in C-bus this weekend exposed our glaring need for a playmaking CAM.

  13. It would be a great signing for new York, but Marquez is their primary target and it was revealed their second option was a European player playing in Europe…he would even be more likely to go to another MLS team, but that is even unlikely seeing that I’m sure a deal will b met with boca

  14. I don’t think there’s any doubt to how good he is. But many teams can’t afford to build around him. He is like Valderamma – incredible on the ball but offers nothing in defense and can have trouble keeping up in an end to end match.

  15. Red Bulls searching for a #10, CAM. Riquelme? People do not realize just how good Riquelme is. He was one of the best players in La Liga and he surpasses Blanco in terms of midfield creativity. Red Bulls should buy him.

  16. Would love to see Movisisyan get his full US citizenship. The guy just seems to be a polished finisher.

Doubt Riequelme would go to the EPL as he loves Boca too much. Can’t blame him really because he is a legend at Boca.

If Real Madrid pay 15 million for Thiago Silva I’ll laugh. Silva is not worth that. The move would bode well for Onyewu though.
