The list of star players linked with Manchester City continues to grow.

Fernando Torres has become the latest Manchester City target, with manager Roberto Mancini claiming the club is interested in signing the Spanish striker as long as Manchester City can afford a deal and if Torres wants to leave Liverpool.

Torres has not committed his future to Liverpool, and new club manager Roy Hodgson even added that the striker has felt let down due to broken promises, making it possible that he transfers elsewhere this summer.

Despite being sidelined for a chunk of the Premiership season last year, Torres still managed to score 18 goals for Liverpool.

Here are some more stories to help get you through the day:

MLS lands Salgado

MLS has signed foreign-based U.S. youth national team forward Omar Salgado, a former youth player of Chivas Guadalajara. The 16-year-old has signed a Generation adidas contract, meaning he will enter next January's MLS SuperDraft as opposed to going through a weighted lottery.

Salgado was considered a hot prospect with Chivas until he announced his decision to want to represent the United States, a decision that went against the club's policy of fielding only Mexico-eligible players.

Maradona willing to stay on as Argentina coach

Diego Maradona is open to continuing as Argentina manager, as long as he is allowed to keep his entire staff

The situation comes after Argentina Football Association (AFA) president Julio Grondona criticized Maradona assistant, Oscar Ruggeri. Maradona said that subject will be the first one discussed with Grondona during scheduled meetings with the AFA on Monday. The soccer legend also said Ruggeri will need to remain if he is to return for another four-year cycle.

What do you think of Torres possibly joining Man City? What team would you like to see Salgado land on? Hoping Maradona stays on as Argentina coach so he can wear more suits on the sidelines?

  1. Glad to have another “Gringo” in the National Team pool. He scored the winner last night in the MILK cup against China. It’s great that he’s only 16 yet is playing on the U-20 team. Let’s see what this kid can do next season.

  2. So now please explain the move by J Borstein to Tigres in the Mexican League if that is all true fischy. And dont say it it because of his Mossad links ( even though it is true about his Mossad links)

  3. It’s funny when people start citing supposed anti-Mexico “xenophobia” or whatever whenever there is anything slight or imagined. Check out a real policy of that sort with Chivas

  4. Well, there’s that…

There’s also probably other considerations — the greater likelihood of making the national team — the greater chances of making a move to European riches — and the greater physical safety he would have playing in the USA instead of increasingly lawless Mexico.

  5. It’s fantastic that so many young Mexican-American players feel comfortable identifying themselves as Americans and joining US Soccer instead of the Mexican national system. It really warms my patriotic heart.

  6. Good for MLS showing a young guy some support after he made a difficult choice, knowing full well what his decision would bring. Good for Salgado for making such a difficult choice too, I hope for the best for him since he’s shown a lot of fortitude to play for the States.

  7. I wonder if the choice of loan club will have anything to do with where he ends up in MLS. There’s no reason it has to since as single entity MLS can just assign him to be on loan anywhere and who knows where he will end up in the draft. It’s one thing to wheel and deal after an allocation lottery, it’s another to make deals with other teams 6 months before the draft.

  8. Felix Rodriguez anyone? What happened to that kid?

Props to Salgado, hopefully he turns out better than a former American-born Chivista, Jesus “Gringo” Padilla.

  9. By Ives report, Salgado will train with an MLS club and go on loan to a USSF2 club.

My guess: Houston and Austin. Austin pulled a number of Houston players last year, including Mike Chabala playing for Austin for a good part of last season. Austin also pulled Houston’s 3rd keeper when Austin’s keeper broke his arm last year.

  10. It used to be Gerrard, but his form was bad last season. If Torres had not been injured so much, they would be top 4 last season.

  11. I hear they are just going to give then entire Man City group that gets cut in the next couple of weeks to fill out both the Portland and Vancouver teams…

  12. they’re going to sell off a bunch of surplus players pretty soon. I’m actually interested in whether they try and hold out for high transfer fees, or take what they can get.

  13. Omar Salgado has earned serious cred with me. Anyone that chooses the USA when they have other options gets a special kind of support from me.

  14. Where was this youngster born? Just Wondering. It’s AWESOME to hear a Chivas de Guadalajara youth player wants to play for the US. Keep ’em comin.

Good luck to whatever decision you make Fernando. He is a truly great player and I want to see him scoring goals wherever he ends up.

  15. Damn, I thought I read that ManCity has acquired Torres. I was so happy that the Red Shite finally lose their talisman.

  16. It’s great to practically steal a 16yo prospect from Chivas of Guadalajara. Still, it will probably be several years until we know how good he will be. Lets hope he is sent to an MLS manager who has a history of developing players. Kinnear comes to mind and Houston would not be a bad place for this youngster, at all.
