Herculez Gomez made his regular season debut for Pachuca this weekend, as the Tuzos tromped America, 3-0, to start off their Apertura campaign.

Just as he had for much of his time with former club Puebla and the U.S. national team this summer, Gomez came off the bench, playing 32 minutes in Pachuca's win. Teammate Jose Torres started and went the distance.

Edgar Castillo also debuted with his new club, San Luis, this weekend. Castillo was also used as a substitute, playing 29 minutes in a 1-1 draw against Monterrey.

Here is how the rest of the Americans Abroad fared this weekend:

  • Chris Rolfe did not dress in Aalborg BK's 2-0 loss vs. Brondby on Sunday. He is recovering from a hamstring injury.

How would you rate Gomez's debut? What did you think of Torres' performance? Expecting Castillo to have a big season with San Luis?

  1. How about Bedya’s younger brother Santiago getting a trial at left back for Orebro in Sweden. Interesting youth development for the future.

  2. Not really. Most jobs cannot discriminate on the basis of citizenship. National origin discrimination is specifically outlawed by Title VII of the Civil Rights Act.

Unless there is a fairly strong justification for requiring citizenship (which basically means, jobs closely connected to politics or national security), requiring it is illegal.

  3. Now see…that would be awesome… Send Donovan out and bring in Vieira…Have them pay 10 million and Patrick…

though I am not convinced that Man City is where Landon should be.

  4. i’m basing my comment on what i read on sochaux’s ste since they post the line ups for each of the preseason matches…the game he captained was the reserve match that he scored in…the games he started were the 45 minute matches early in the preseason schedule…

  5. Ives you gotta do a story on Connor Doyle from Texas. He is on trial at Derby County, scored in a recent friendly, the manager rates him highly saying he is better than their 18 year olds.

His dad is a former pro indoor player and is Irish so Connor can sign if he gets an Irish passport.

  6. Pre-seaon but Jon-Paul Pittman is doing well with 4 goals in 5 games. He scored against a strong Reading side on Saturday.

  7. davies scored that goal for the reserve team….also wouldn’t get excited for davies just yet. during the last 2 or 3 pre-season games he is the 4th or fifth striker option thus far. sochaux’s season starts on aug 7/8 not looking like he will be the starter in the early going….

  8. Stabaek just played in the 2nd round in the Europa league on thurday (FYI Stabaek lost on the away goals rule and are out of Europa League). If Mix started the game on thurday he could have been wasted to go full time against Rosenborg.

  9. Great ski, good on ya for getting with the program. I think everybody ought to have a favorite team in every big league in the world. I think it helps to know the World’s Game even better than one does now.

  10. I think is funny how Chivas keeps producing players born in the US.

I have always wondered why this can’t be done in the US. I don’t think this would be racism because people of any race can be American. Its just like the government requiring citizenship for some jobs.

I would love to see this happen. I know I am just dreaming.

  11. There were several other Americans playing in Mexico this weekend.

The most notable likely won’t play for the US anytime soon, if ever. Miguel Angel Ponce of Sacramento started at left back for Chivas.

Also, Sonny Guadarrama and Sammy Ochoa, who have toiled in the second tier in Mexico for awhile, played first team first division games. Ochoa came off the bench for Tecos and Guadarrama started for Atlante but came out in the first half.

  12. a little bit off topic, but…i doubt Donovan will move to Citeh, we have to get rid of 12 players by the end of the window because of the new 25 roster size

what this also means is that maybe Vieira has to leave citeh now even though he just re-signed. He is possibly back on the map for MLS teams

  13. Also, Mo Edu started and scored against Blackburn in a friendly for Rangers. He apparently also drew a penalty. Someone posted this in the KC-ManU thread.

  14. Torres was decent. His first 15 minutes were mixed but he quickly overcame that to steady out and continue his specialty of connecting passes. I suppose that’s the least you can expect from the first match of the season. Well, that and a win.
