The speculation over the future of Jonathan Bornstein is over.
Chivas USA announced on Monday that the United States international has signed a pre-contract deal with Mexican club Tigres UANL. The defender will finish his contract with the Rojiblancos before joining Tigres in January of 2011.
"First and foremost, I remain focused on finishing this season with Chivas USA," said Bornstein in a press release. "There is a lot we can accomplish, from SuperLiga this week to the Open Cup semifinals in September, getting to the playoffs and making a run at MLS Cup. When the season ends, I'm excited to join Tigres and ready for all the changes that will come with the move. It will be a big moment for me and I'm looking forward to it."
Bornstein's move to the Mexican league is expedited due to the fact that his mother is a Mexican Native thus allowing the defender to secure a Mexican passport so he will not count as a foreign player.
The announcement of the move comes on the same day that the defender was announced to the 2010 MLS All-Star Team. The Chivas USA captain played in two games for the United States at the World Cup and has one assist in ten games for the Rojiblancos in 2010. Chivas USA resume their Superliga schedule on Wednesday against Mexican side Pachuca.
It is great new for Mexican club Tigres fans!
How so? Did you watch him in the World Cup? I was one of MANY who groaned and threw crap at the TV when I say JB take the field in South Africa, but he redeemed himself VERY nicely with his play over there. Say what you will about the USMNT’s defensive lapses, and they were legion, but Jonny was solid in the past World Cup. A total surprise, but what the hell. Makes Bob look kinda smart, too, eh?
Good move for him. I still think he is the most overated player in our pool.
Playing with better technical players should help him tremendous. I hope he tears it up in the FMF. Maybe then I will start to show him some love.lol If he plays like he did against Ghana then he should be fine for the rest of his career.

This is a good move for John B.
easy now….
dos a cero, dos a cero, dos a cero, dos a cero
Has to be the most overrated player in the Nat pool
Do they have brisket and matzoh ball soup in Mexico?
It’s called Jew fro. 😉
Congrats, Jonathan. Tear it up down there!
Nice!
Bornstein did play in the Maccabiah Games with Benny and handily beat the crap out of the team my teammates played for.
I remember a couple of results last year that slap you in the face with that comment.
they’re bringing Bornstein down there to be an American pinata, since they don’t beat Americans enough to satisfy the inferiority complex any more these days…
yeah just saw that. that’s good, maybe he can get his career back on track. need as many winger options as we can get!
he is actually coming to MLS
Maccabiah Games. Benny repped the US but I don’t thing Bornstien did.
If you’re headed for Portugal, it’s due south!
Man, Tigres is gonna be PISSED when they see him actually play on the field.
He should have gone to the Honduran league.
Badly?
in other news, Jol says he is NOT taking the job at fulham
i would love to see sal zizzo in the MLS. however, i think he is finally overcoming injury and hannover still has him. hopefully he can get some time with them or a loan elsewhere.
lots of mexican teams use fringe players too…
He’s getting a Mexican passport? We’d better cap this dude.
I think that was an Arrested Development reference. COME ON!!!
Borno does have a nice mane of hair on him. So full of volume and texture.
Yeah, I definitely think the average is higher in the FMF than the MLS. The peaks are about even in each, though. But that higher average translates to depth, so FMF teams need not take CCL terribly seriously to defeat MLS teams (also not taking CCL terribly seriously).
I like this move. It’s a small step up the professional ladder. Play in Mexico a couple years. He will be better, move across the Atlantic.
Also, Adam Sandler based his character Zohan off of Johnny B. Most people just thought it was a funny, or stupid, movie.
I love the move for JohnnyB, this will help him develop into the next WC a bit better
btw, i would think Chivas USA wants Sal Zizzo
I thought he might end up in Norway, particularly Bergen or Alsund. Both cities are known for their rapidly growing Mexican communities (apparently, the new laws in Arizona have something to do with this) and it’s common knowledge that the tequila they serve there is very, very cool.
Portugal is not particularly in south America…
A little know fact:
Bornstein has ties to MOSSAD
Rafa Marquez….Wher are you???
Better money definitely. Besides if he went to Europe (if he could) he would probably be riding the bench.
