Robinho and Dani Alves join Chelsea target Ramires as the three World Cup veterans named to a young Brazil squad for the August 10th friendly against the United States at the New Meadowlands Stadium in New Jersey.

Young sensations Neymar and Paulo Henrique Ganso and World Cup snub Alexandre Pato were also called up by newly-named Brazil manager Mano Menezes.

Here is the full squad:

Alexandre Pato (AC Milan), André (Santos), André Santos (Fenerbahçe), Carlos Eduardo (Hoffenheim), Daniel Alves (Barcelona), David Luíz (Benfica), Diego Tardelli (Atlético Mineiro), Ederson (Lyon), Paulo Henrique Ganso (Santos), Henrique (Racing Santander), Hernanes (São Paulo), Jeferson (Botafogo), Jucilei (Corinthians), Lucas (Liverpool), Marcelo (Real Madrid), Neymar (Santos), Rafael (Manchester United), Ramires (Benfica), Renan (Avaí), Rever (Atlético Mineiro), Robinho (Santos), Sandro (Internacional), Thiago Silva (AC Milan), Victor (Grêmio)

What do you think of the team? Hoping the United States also calls up a young team?

  1. Someone made an earlier comment about Brazil treating this like a training session…. are you kidding me? They called Robinho, Ramires, Dani Alves, and Thiago Silva

David Luiz, Ganso, Neymar, Sandro, Hernanes, Carlos Eduardo, and Jucilei all have more talent in their pinky finger than anyone under 26 in the United States. Those guys all could have played and made a huge impact in THIS World Cup. If we bring a bunch of young scrubs, I guess it will be good experience, but they will get absolutely destroyed.

This isn’t a second team Brazil. It’s just a preview of the 2014 Brazilian World Cup team. Only addition to that one will be Julio Cesar and perhaps Maicon (at age 33 or something???)

  2. I fully agree with you, Elano adds a lot of balance to Dunga’s side specially in attacks as in evident from his record for national team. His absence let down Brazil in a big way.Young team is the right way to go for Brazil, since 4 years is not far and these players would learn and improve with experience.Although I am not a great fan of defensive soccer but I believed Dunga’s plan was ok. Will be eager to see how Menezes balances both offence and defence, although everybody wants to see the old Brazilian flair in modern football tight defence is extremely important.

  3. I don’t know what our plans are for friendlies in the fall/winter but I do not think this is the time to bring in young players for their first cap. Lets go for the win in front of 80,000 people in NY over Brazil! what a better way to end a strong summer for US Soccer.

there are a lot of young, uncapped or recovering players that need to be suited up before the gold cup but i would hope that they wait until a lower profile friendly closer to the end of the MLS season/middle of the Euro season.

  4. you watch one game of neymar and judge him by that u are very ignorant. everyone is making all this fuss about neymar he is very good but ganso is already and exceptional talent he is better than neymar in my opinion he is better than xavi in MY OPINION he has more vision he passing range and abilities are as good or even better than xavi he has more control than xavi and he aloy more skillfull than him and he has a better shot. forget neymar and pato they will have a good game against the us but ganso will be the star

  5. They really missed Elano and Ramieres against the Dutch. Its hindsight, of course, but I see a different result in the game if either had been available.

  6. thats only your opinion which is far from the facts, Maicon is better than Alves on Defense but thats it . As for Roberto Carlos Mercelo took his spot with Real. He still has many years to become what people expect. They are better than Any Fullback combo we can put out anyway.

  7. Here is who i would bring in, who knows if we still have Bradley so im not saying who i think Bradley will bring in…..

    Howard, Guzan, Rimando

Gonzalez, Onyewu, Bornstein, Spector, Goodson, Alston, Castillo

Adu, Dempsey, Jones(Convey), Torres, Bradley, Edu, Holden, Feilhaber, Shea, Stephens

    Davies(Findley), Altidore, Braun

Its time to see what this team can do without either of its captains. Boca and Donovan will be apart of the next 4 years no doubt, but lets see who steps up right now. This is a blend of players who have shown promise over the last year. I have parenthasese for Jones and Davies incase they are not ready.

  8. We can’t just waste an opportunity to gauge ourselves against the best on young players alone. We have to evaluate the future and who/what we are right now.

  9. Maicon and Roberto Carlos are two of the best fullbacks in history. Alves and Marcelo have a long way to go before they are in their class. They are world-class, but not universe-class.

  10. As nice as a win against Brazil would be if we called in all the veterans, it’s time to move on and start to build for 2014. This “we must win” mentality is what has been the demise of our youth development system. The World Cup is over, winning this game would be pointless with a bunch of guys who won’t be there in 2014. It’s time to bring in fresh faces. I hope to see a sprinkling of vets and a boat load of youngin’s.

  11. Not fair to call Marshall a disappointment.
He’s having a great MLS career, in between a few injuries.
If he had another half-step of speed, he might be world-class. But he never did, and never will. He is doing his best with the equipment he has.

  12. Silva is the new Lucio , Alves is just as good at Maicon and Marcelo is Roberto Carlos in the making so dont think Brazil will be skipping a beat in that backline . Ramires looked better that Gilberto Silva in the world up he never started because of his lack of experience so in the middle they are still strong . not even going to talk about the top three , everyone knows those guys are studs.
