The votes are in, and the First XI of the 2010 MLS All Star team that will take on Manchester United has been revealed.

World Cup veterans Landon Donovan and Edson Buddle were selected to lead the attacking line, despite missing a healthy chunk of the regular season because of World Cup duty. Even so, Buddle's 10 goals lead MLS, while Donovan's 10 assists are also tops in the league.

Galaxy teammates Omar Gonzalez and Donovan Ricketts join the attacking duo, in a Galaxy-heavy lineup reflective of the squad's success in the first half of the 2010 season. Two other league leaders, the Columbus Crew and Real Salt Lake, are also well represented. Here's a look at the starting XI voted in:

Goalkeeper- Donovan Ricketts (Los Angeles Galaxy)

Defenders- Chad Marshall (Columbus Crew), Omar Gonzalez (Los Angeles Galaxy), Jamison Olave (Real Salt Lake)

Midfielders- Kyle Beckerman (Real Salt Lake), Marco Pappa (Chicago Fire), Javier Morales (Real Salt Lake), Dwayne De Rosario (Toronto FC), Guillermo Barros Schelotto (Columbus Crew)

Forwards- Landon Donovan (Los Angeles Galaxy), Edson Buddle (Los Angeles Galaxy)

12 more players will join the squad, 10 who will be chosen by All-Star coach Bruce Arena and two by MLS Commisioner Don Garber.

What do you think about the eleven selected? Who should be picked next Monday?

  1. The game is in LA, not Puerto Rico, which should make travel a bit easier. Word on the street is that LA will play their full squad against PR and then the All-Star contingent will travel to Houston for the festivities…

  2. Even though I am an RSL fan, the one guy I think has been very underrated and deserves consideration is Ryan Smith for KC. He has been tremendous every time I watch him play and I think he deserves to be an all-star.

As for Joseph, I think that he is just living on reputation at this point. He is not even close to the best holding mid right now. He has played terrible all year and while you may make excuses based on injuries, the fact is that he doesn’t deserve it. He has not played like an all-star this year!

Beckerman clearly is the best defensive mid in the league and I think the USNT would have had a whole different look with a true defensive mid like KB5 closing down the space in front of the back 4. His passing and distribution from that position is also tremendous.

I do worry that the starting midfield for the all-star game is terribly slow. They are all very skilled but it is really 4 number 10s and one holding mid. I think they all deserve it but you cannot actually start that lineup.

  3. I find it tough to think that not one Redbull is worthy of the starting 11 when they have played extremely well this season.

  4. I was waiting for someone to suggest convey as I was reading the posts. Good pick. I am a homer on this, but I think he is more than deserving.

  5. If Arena wants to give the side its best shot at kunking ManU, he’ll have Shalrie Joseph starting as defensive mid. He is simply the best in the league in that role.

  6. As a RSL fan, i still feel it should be the Galaxy defense with Olave to send into the oppositions box to score, then a conglomeration of MLS midfielders and then Sabo/Buddle and LandyCakes. Oh and Ricketty-back starting with someone else on the bench.

  7. Absolutley on Convey – he is 2nd only to Donovan on assists and game winning assists. I gotta believe Arena will select him.
