Henry signs with New York

The worst kept secret in MLS was confirmed Wednesday morning, with the New York Red Bulls announcing the signing of French International Thierry Henry to a multi-year deal.

A move that had been rumored for months has finally come to fruition, and Henry will become New York's second Designated Player alongside Juan Pablo Angel. Henry will be introduced at a Red Bull Arena press conference Thursday, July 15 and will likely make his debut against former rivals Tottenham Hotspur in the Barclays New York Challenge on July 22.

The former Barcelona and Arsenal player joins on the heels of France's disastrous World Cup run that saw Les Bleus knocked out in the tournament's group stage.

What do you think about the move? Can Henry succeed in MLS?

  1. Kandji needs to stay healthy and with Chinn, and Agudelo coming up I wouldn’t mind if he got traded though I can see Kandiman playing some midfield

  2. Is it really that absurd a question? Angel takes them ALL right now. Henry’s one of the best at the dead ball, but…I don’t know, do you want to absolutely demote the guy who was the team franchise until today? Plus I think Henry would make a good target. And so would Angel.

  3. So, where does Macoumba Kandji fit in? Or Salou Ibrahim? Start Kandji, Henry and Angel, with Henry and Kandji dropping deep when necessary?
