Houston Dynamo at Toronto FC: Your Running Commentary

HOU_Primary_COL TOR_Primary_COL

It's Canada Day north of the border, and the Houston Dynamo will try to snap Toronto FC's year-long-and-counting home winning streak when the two teams meet Thursday night at BMO Field (7 p.m., ESPN2/ESPN Deportes).

Dwayne De Rosario facing his former team is the obvious storyline, but one of the other notables to keep an eye on is the play of the Toronto defense. The Reds, led by Adrian Cann and keeper Stefan Frei, have allowed one goal in their last five league matches and are coming off two consecutive clean sheets.

The Dynamo, meanwhile, have struggled to find consistency while battling the injury bug, but Brad Davis, Brian Ching and the rest of the guys in orange can beat any team at any park on their best night.

If you are watching the game please feel free to share any thoughts, opinions and play-by-play in the comments section below. Enjoy the match!

  1. Yes, Rob, I was thinking the same thing. What a great header especially after getting so tangled up with Sayang before the corner kick. I especially liked the little look he gave Sayang right after he scored.

I think I understand why Bradley took Findley (speed) and Gomez and Buddle (in form) but it’s a shame it had to be at the expense of Ching not making the Nats for the World Cup. I think we could have used his presence in the air, and his calmness under pressure.

  2. Yes, Rob, I was thinking the same thing….what a header, especially after all the contact with Sayang. I think I understand why Bradley chose the speed option in Findley and the in form options of Buddle and Gomez for the Nats, but I also think we missed Ching’s coolness under pressure and his presence in the box. It’s a shame he couldn’t go to South Africa.

  3. Would be nice if Blaise Nkufo makes it there and gets some minutes. 3 guys from the World Cup would be nice for the MLS to market.

  4. Linesman thought he was at a USMNT World Cup match and decided to cheat Mullan out of his goal. Sepp called to say, “AR, pack your bags; you’re going to South Africa!”

  5. Actually, the MLS and ESPN is paying attention. they’ve just added the Sounders-Galaxy game to their Sunday schedule with the hook being Landon’s first game since WC.

We know what LA has done this year. We can only hope the Sounders decide to show up for a change and make it an interesting game

  6. Toronto plays Preki ball aka boring ball. Haven’t you figured that out yet? I still like Preki though. He’s a good coach.

  7. I agree this was not a very pretty game to watch. Second half got a little better, but still…. blah blah blah

  8. Wouldn’t it be cool if that Galaxy-Sounders game this Sunday was on ABC. I think there WOULD be more World Cup viewers who would tune in.

  9. 30 minutes in and this is, without a doubt, the worst professional soccer game I have seen in a long time. I have seen some Over-30 games with better technique than what I am seeing. Can you imagine some of the non-soccer fans who might have gotten excited by the performance of the Nats deciding to tune in to this MLS game? So much for the post-World Cup bump. Ughhhh.
