  1. Andy, you are correct. I was sitting just a few rows behind the goal, and if it wasn’t a friendly, Giggs might have been shown a straight red for that. He jacked the guy pretty good.

And, the Conrad red sure looked deserved a full speed. Slow motion replays may have shown that Conrad got more of the ball, but at full speed it looked like a straight red.

I am normally the first to jump on the refs, but the guy did a good job. Still not sure the second KC goal crossed the line (it was on the far side), but even the replays I’ve seen were inconclusive.

By the way, it was a wonderful event. The Wizrds and KC did a great job. The pregame atmosphere was awesome and everything was first class. We came from St. Louis for the event, and we were very impressed. My son loved it, and we may make an annual Wizards weekend trip because of it.

  2. I disagree.. I watched the match and giggs was getting out of hand…sure pushing goes on the box but it started at midfield and he threw an elbow there then jabbed stiff arm into the throat…he was frustrated and I thought the yellow was warranted..

  3. Can’t believe Ives doesn’t have a write-up about Kansas City beating Manchester United. That wasn’t a big story in the soccer world.

  4. Speaking of Manchester. I was flipping thru the channels and saw a Lacrosse World Championships game with US v. Canada and it was in Manchester. But the field was artificial turf and much smaller stadium. Obviously not Man C or Man U’s venue. Anyone know what that would be?

  5. That ref obviously enjoys the attention when he blows the whistle. Saw the first part of the game and he of course stopped play to unnecessarily caution players jostling before a free kick. Doesn’t surprised me he flashed a red.

Ives, do you know of any movement underfoot to improve MLS officiating? Bad officiating is one thing, but egotistical officiating, where the ref blatantly wants the attention on himself, is infuriating as a fan

  6. Da Silva and Smalling looked way out of their depth today…

Warren Barton is smug too… It is the Kansas “CITY’ Wizards…

  7. Really? Who cares? Isn’t the point to get more people interested in the sport in general in America? Who cares how they get there? Everyone needs to start somewhere and I personally would rather they like soccer than not like it. I could care less if they are a ManU, Chelsea, or Madrid fan and live in the U.S. At least they’ll be more apt to support soccer and hopefully pass it onto their kids, friends, family, whatever.

  8. How is Jermaine Jones playing for the USMNT a joke? If he can get back to his 2008 form he’s our best central midfielder, and yes that even includes Michael Bradley.

And if you’re questioning his American-ness, remember the fact that his Dad is a serviceman. That should be the only answer you need.

  10. Hahaha… they just hold the heart monitor and pedometer that a lot of players wear in training now. Keeps track of heart rate and how many steps were taken/ground covered. Oh, and it makes them feel like they just won the women’s world cup in penalties…

  11. Can someone please explain to me those sports bra-looking things that several Man U players and Robbie Keane wore today? I would assume it has something to do with the heat but they are not very flattering.

  12. Note to MLS referees: We don’t need Red cards in friendlies that are entirely for the fans and the soccer community….

  14. I’m going to ignore the bait from ga-gone’s comment. Did anyone catch what Warren Barton asked Garber right before they concluded their interview with him? They shook hands and laughed after he said it, but he said it so fast I missed it. Anyone?

  15. ugh, conrad sent off. I was about to say that 11 v 10 for 50 minutes hardly gives sir alex any real indication of what his young players are made of…but then KC scores again, hehe.
