The New York Red Bulls will introduce new Designated Player Thierry Henry tonight as he makes his debut against Tottenham in the opening match of the New York Challenge (8:30pm, Fox Soccer Channel).
If you can't watch the Fox Soccer Channel broadcast, you can watch the match here, courtesy of Red Bull's Veetle page (video is after the jump):

Since we have the streaming video tonight, I will pass on doing a live commentary on the match, and will provide Tweets during the action via the SoccerByIves Twitter account (which you should follow if you aren't already).
Feel free to share your thoughts and opinons on tonight's match in the comments section below.
Maybe Henry again will score!:)
Not a bad display from Spurs, who were still resting their 10 World Cup Finals players.
Especially considering that it’s still pre-season, while New York are well into their stride with half their season played already.
I am pretty excited watching Henry playing in his first Red Bulls match.
Awful picture and commentating on FSC…Graphics look like they are from the 80’s
What is the holdup with Directv?
The red bulls always look so lazy on the pitch….. Hall was awful on d and attacking….. Hall richards tandem does not work. Frustrating…
This is a fun game!! Glad I watched. I think Sutton might want to consider retirement!! Terrible performance tonight. Wish I could be there but I live in western Iowa. This weekend I am making the 3 hour drive to watch ManU vs Kansas City and can’t wait!!
He just seems nervous and out of sorts. He’s been bumbling all night even with basic sentences.
“Oh when THE SPURS go marching in…” The spurs is just fine.
They would have been better off with the “Boom Goes the Dynamite” kid doing the commentary. That was simply unlistenable (which is not a word, but I heard Sarah Palin say it I think)
Did you just say posers? I think my work here is done
Caligiuri was a professional soccer player for many years, played overseas, played in 2 World Cups, and he never found out that it’s not “the Spurs” or “the Tottenham Hotspurs”?
Commentator just called him Christian Bale.
” But are NYC fans going to continue to boo their own player for the rest of the season?”
Yes they will lol. Watch a Yankees game. Note what happens when one of their own has a rough night 🙂
Rest of us don’t live in the biggest city in the country and have Henry either. We’ll see how it goes in MLS action I guess.
Ives: “Tonight’s attendance: 20,312. Not a sell-out, but game was selling very poorly before Henry announcement last week.”
Bale=awesome. Lindpere=very good. Sutton…doesn’t have the confidence of his defense is a generous way to put it? And I thought Bouna was an adventure in anxiety….
yep, i switched over to atdhe.net
Tottenham has been taking it easy in this game. Obviously, no one wants to get hurt in a pre-season friendly. However, it was pretty lame the way Hutton allowed Lindpere to run around him and cross the ball to Henry for the first goal. Watch the replay — Hutton just gives up. What self-respecting defender does that? Spurs were lucky to score their goal off the Tchani/Sutton miscommunication. At least Gareth Bale is trying. He’s owned Dane Richards and totally embarrassed Jeremy Hall for Tottenham’s second goal.
Feed down for everyone?
I dunno. Caliguri will always be a legend for his playing career, but he’s not very good as an announcer. No biggie–some people just don’t have the gift of gab.
You too, dude. I enjoyed this. Cheers
Alright man, I’m out.
Good chatting/debating with ya. Until next time, have fun!
Even though I think it’s silly, I can understand the booing by NYC fans at this particular game — 1st appearance by TH and against non-MLS opposition. And I certainly expect opposing MLS fans to boo him all season and beyond. But are NYC fans going to continue to boo their own player for the rest of the season?
Whats crazy is that really the only fans that can talk about attendance in this situation is the Sounders and Galaxy fans. The rest of you wouldnt hit 25,000 even if you sold out your stadium
Well played attempt on the ” 1st city ” comment. I’ll give ya that one.
I’m just trying to delay the criticism by another year 😉
But yeah, I think next year will tell us more. A continued increase (even a much more modest one) would be superb…
just a bid to satisfy a fellow fan who is a staunch supporter of the game here in the 1st city, my kind sir.
Heh. I also heard a “Tottenham ’til I die” chant. They certainly are making themselves heard…
You assumed correctly. That was a sincere question regarding the acoustics.
Should I tip you extra for attempting to meet my standards of satisfication?
Never would have pegged you as a lady of the night. Excuse me for being abrasive in the above posts. It’s not in my nature to be rude to women.
Chicago Spurs are there too!!
“Feck The Queen, Feck The Queen”
heard clearly.
I think that’s an extremely reasonable assesment/observation circling year two.
I dunno, he seems like a fairly reasonable dude…
i think mr. 2 was making an attempt of being somewhat condescending with a sprinkle of praise?
no can do.
am preparing to leave work right now to make an attempt to at least make the last 15 minutes of the match in an effort to bump attendance a bit for your satisfaction.
There are a lot of us Jackasses with Irish heritage in NYC and as good as TH looks, he better get used to the booing. JPA and TH are going to be a potent combo. It will be tough marking both of them consistently.
Perhaps. I know 16,300 doesn’t sound great compared to capacity, but it’s a pretty healthy number, and I really don’t think anyone could reasonably expect an increase of more than 40% more than last year. I think the big question is how they’ll draw next year, especially if they have some success in the playoffs this year.
Now I’m an old man? I guess you’ll continue throwing darts at the name-calling-wall to see what sticks, yea?
By the way, site me a link to the dialogue you were attempting to recite from Anchorman…because you failed miserably at it/if not just made it up (either of which explains your lack of delivery at humor).
The NY Spurs supporters group is out in full effect (and they are loud)
Acoustics are pretty good, but sadly (and expectedly, I suppose) they reflect the sound in the upper deck much better than the lower bowl, so away fans sitting upstairs can sound disproportionately loud. ESC brings it regardless though.
