SBI Live Q&A (World Cup Edition 4)

Good afternoon folks. I know we just had an SBI Live Q&A on Monday, but there's plenty to talk about in the soccer world and I have an hour to spare before I cover tonight's Netherlands-Uruguay World Cup semifinal.

Want to talk World Cup, European transfer rumors or MLS? Let's do it.

Fire your questions my way (Today's Q&A is after the jump):

Comments

  1. Exactly. I’m a southern boy and yankee is a regional term that I have no desire to get behind. And why would anyone out west care? Northeast bias, plain and simple.

  2. Southerners, guys…to them “yankees” are northerners. To us northerners, Yankee is in reference to the English.

  3. What’s up with the ever-increasing number of questions posed by the supposed person in question? Maybe it’s just me, but it’s pretty lame.

  4. Is there an explanation for why Uraguay does not sport Stars above their crest on their jerseys? I know they have won two World Cups haven’t they?>??

  5. I don’t get it either RK but there are several comments in Ives’ Q/A over the past couple sessions that indicate enough people are… Probably kids who didn’t pay attention in the high school history classes… Who knows?

  6. Maybe the BEST thing Ives has EVER written (in a long line of good writing I might add):

[In response to a jackass question about how the USA “failed”]

“Listen my friend, who says USA “was supposed to win” against Ghana? They could have won, and it was close, but you’re inflated sense of entitlement and utter disregard for the abilities of other countries doesn’t make your rage over your own expectations for the national team any more understandable. That game was disappointing because there was a sense of a missed opportunity, but I personally think you’re nuts if you’re calling this World Cup for the USA a failure.”

It just needed to be said again.

  7. Do you see Benny Feilhaber making a switch? He was instant improvement each time he came into the game in the WC. I would think he could move up a few leagues from where he was.

  8. For all you people who are offended or don’t understand the term Yanks and why we should embrace it I will give you a short history lesson. Originally the British used the short rhyme to mock our pre-revoluntionary troops after the 7 years war and going into the Revolution. Then our soldiers and citizenry turned the words around to mock the british and it stuck.

Go to any search engine and type in Yankee Doodle Dandy and you can get a full explaination. But if you trust me then know that I embrace the term and am PROUD to be a YANK.
