Who is on your MLS All-Star Ballot?

Landon Donovan (MichaelJanoszISI)

The MLS All-Star Voting closes on Tuesday, and it's time to find out who SBI readers believe should be part of the 11-man lineup that will face Manchester United on July 28th.

Landon Donovan is a lock to be voted in, but the rest of the field can go in any number of directions. League scoring leader Edson Buddle is a strong bet, though Juan Pablo Angel is likely to get his share of votes as well. There are good debates all around. Bobby Convey or Marco Pappa (or Sebastien LeToux) in midfield? Jamison Olave or Tim Ream (or Sean Franklin) in defense? Donovan Ricketts or Nick Rimando in goal? These are just some of the discussions that can be had regarding a tougher ballot than usual to select.

Here is the MLS All-Star ballot. Give it a look and tell us who makes yours (And yes, we realize some of the positions are questionable, as is the choice of a 3-5-2, but that's the ballot, so please try to work in that framework).

Share your selections below (The SBI staff will reveal its selections on Wednesday).

  1. Forwards: Landon Donovan, Buddle
Mid:D-Ro Santino, Bobby Convey, Schelloto, and my fav Marco Pappa!!
Def: Omar Gonz, Dunivant, and Berhalter

  2. is there any limit on how many times you can vote? doesn’t appear to be b/c it lets you keep returning to vote right away

  3. I voted in all RSL players, because i’ve learned that we only make the all star team if we are given coaches choice because the game is being played in our home stadium lol.

  4. Galaxy play the Puerto Rico Islanders the prior night in their CCL play-in series. I don’t know how much (if any) we’ll see any Galaxy All-Stars the following night in the game.

  5. How I voted…

    Forwards: Edson Buddle, Kei Kamara

Midfielders: Sebastian Le Toux, Dwayne De Rosario, Lovel Palmer, Ryan Smith, Steve Zakuani

Defenders: Omar Gonzales, Wilman Conde, Ike Opara

    Goalkeeper: Donovan Ricketts

  6. You’ll have a forward tandem of Buddle and Angel.

Midfield will be Donovan and Lindpere (the leading vote getter), I’d also expect DeRosario, Pappa and Ljungberg.

Defense should be Juninho, Ream, Marshall and Pearce.

Keeper is a shoe in for Ricketts.

  7. As a Fire fan, would love to see Pappa and Nyarko at least get to the bench and some time as subs. I feel both have shown some great flair in attack consistently throughout the year.

I’m a little worried that Nyarko’s lack of goals (and league profile) will leave him out . . .

  8. Basically the LA Galaxy defense. Donovan and Buddle. Don’t really know anyone else for midfield, aside from Convey and DeRosario.

Why does MLS insist on putting almost every MLS player on the ballot? Why not just put the players who have played well? Certainly any player on DC United should be far away from the ballot.

Part of me is hoping Donovan impresses Ferguson, just saying.

  9. Played attacking mid in the last game- Philly was in a “diamond”. Mwanga and Moreno were up top, and it seemed to work out OK.

  10. Perhpas a silly question but I haven’t seen any Galaxy games this year.

Is Donovan playing forward this year? If not why do they always list him as a forward on the ballot because he has been in the midfield for what seems like years now.

The forwards should be Angel and Buddle with Donovan in midfield but you can’t vote that way. Ugh, MLS.

  11. sadly I don’t really follow MLS but usually google or check wikipedia.

I’d have Ricketts as GK and Buddle and Donovan up top but with also LeToux but can they play 3 up top for the All Star game?

  12. 1st thing first why is Danny Califf back in MLS?
2nd will Omar Gonzalez be capped before the Gold Cup? Imagine him and Gooch as our centerback pairing from 2012 and onward, not bad huh.

3rd how much is LeToux being payed?

  13. Definitely Brian Ching for being excluded from the World Cup team in South Africa and not being on the field in the World Cup in Germany. I hope Bruce and Dom put him on the team. Bruce should pay him back.
