A peek at the Brazil squad

Wondering what the Brazil squad will look like that faces the United States on Tuesday night? The 'Selecao' gave us a sneak peak during their training on Monday night at the New Meadowlands Stadium.

Here is the starting XI we could see new Brazil manager Mano Menezes trot out against the United States on Tuesday night:

——————————-Pato——————————–

Neymar——————–Ganso——————–Robinho

——————–Ramires———Lucas———————-

Andre Santos—David Luiz—-Thiago———Dani Alves

——————————Victor—————————–

That right there is a scary mix of top experienced talent and freakishly good young talent. The young tandem of Neymar and Paulo Ganso are two promising attacking threats while  David Luiz and Thiago are two of the best young centerbacks in Europe.

In short, while it is a young Brazil team it is a stacked Brazil team that will go up against the United States on Tuesday night.

What do you think of this squad? Excited to see how the USA veterans do against this young but loaded Brazil squad?

  1. He still doesnt have a lot of national team experience. I think not even 15 caps. Lacks defense and is a pretty poor passer. If you look at the statistics during the World Cup, much of Brazil’s crossing and passing came from the middle and right side. If I recall, it took Bastos like 3 whole games to even connect on a cross lol. That’s just bad.

He’s been pretty good for Lyon, but they use him differently there. And now he may be moving to Juventus. Hopefully he learns to defend there, but I doubt it.

Filipe Luis, who just transferred from Deportivo La Coruna to Atletico Madrid probably has the brightest future out of our left-backs.

  2. I dont think that matters at all. There were no glaring issues on the team to be honest — the team never really played badly up until the Dutch game, and they played like crap for a half). No team would have won the World Cup without their top 2 midfield reserves (Elano and Ramires). I think that’s fact. Would Spain even have made the final without Navas and Fabregas?!? Doubt it. Most teams can survive losing one or even two defenders or a forward, but two key midfielders?!? The anti-Brazilian team critique is a bunch of BS if you ask me too. The team had been playing great for 2+ years, scored lots of goals, didnt have any negative characters (Ronaldinho or Roberto Carlos), good team morale. Losses happen.

  3. I agree that’s bad. At least Balotelli never refused to go to to an orphanage like Neymar did. The little idiot stayed on a bus in the parking lot along with some of Santos’ other religious buttheads (Ganso and Robinho included, although I’m not sure Robinho is evangelical), because the orphanage was linked to a spiritist movement. Pretty low if you ask me…

  4. Winning here is important if we bring mostly of our world cup squad against a very inexperienced Brazil. We have to take care of business.

I get sickly nervous even if I had to play a game of marbles. Hate losing.

  5. Can’t wait to see who Bob Bradley trots out. Does Benny get the start that he deserves? Who will start up top alongside Jozy? How will Johnny B play? I feel Howard will have a BIG night in front of his hometown crowd.

We will finally get to see how Brazil’s B team might have done in the World Cup. They do have a couple first teamers. But still, it is fun to wonder.

Prediction: 2-1 USA. Jozy finally scores. Edu knocks one in off a free kick in the final 15 minutes.

It is going to feel awfully strange not being sickly nervous the entire 90 minutes. I feel we still need to win this just to keep the momentum going after the World Cup.

  6. Should be an exciting game for Brazil with all these players getting their first international caps. The US team has more to lose than gain from this game. Somewhat of an odd situation.

  7. I am nervous as well, but also excited. Hopefully we’ll be able to see Findley run REALLY fast! That’s why he’s on the team right?

  8. Agreed Jamez – there was nothing Brazilian about that team. I feel bad for North Korea because Brazil played so badly that the North Koreans looked decent…

And now the NK coach has been banished to the coal mines or something as punishment because they aired the Portugal game live and disgraced the country.

My point is, Brazil has been boring for years. Bring on the youngsters!

  9. It’s players the US needs to compete at the next level. Brazil’s 2nd tier of players, some of these guys may never play in a World Cup and may only play qualifiers or Copa America’s, are so much better than our guys, generally speaking. We have a world class keeper and a few very good players. But it stops there. The rest, and most, of our guys are mediocre compared to the talent pool in Brazil.

A top drawer coach could take us far but against the ~10 countries that have deep talent pools, it would be a tall order for the US to win a World Cup in the foreseeable future. No sour grapes here at all, but that bracket of ours in South Africa was a good as you could have hoped for, too.

I’ll be at the game tomorrow night. Looking forward to it.

  10. Victor, Neymar might not have Ramires’ humility, but he is nowhere near Balotelli. When Neymar signs with Flamengo and starts giving interviews while wearing Fluminese jersey, then you can start comparing him to Balotelli.

  11. Cant believe you fell for Dunga, i predicted Brazil would crash out after watching the confed Cup last year. They Had glaring issues with the team that he failed to address, because they kept winning despite the issues. in the world he had no re-enforments on his bench and was too stubborn in his doctrine to try anything remotely different. he’s so Unlike what you would expect from a free Spirited Brazilian. He’s too European and it does not work with Brazilian players. Take note Brazilian players are the best in the world yet they rarely do well in England or Germany. The play a certain style and Dunga was anti Brazilian football.

  12. Good question USA Soccerboy. I’m looking to bounce out of work early and head to the east valley to watch the game as well. I’ll look around and post back if I find anything.

  13. Sorry if this is off-topic. Can someone tell me a good place to watch the game in the Phoenix area, specifically around Tempe if possible?? I literally have no tv here.

  14. nah I live in Brasil, i want to advice team USA if you want to get the best out of Neymar, mark him hard, he will result into diving, oh and he is a hot head.

don`t give Ganso space though, if you give him Space forget it, just put the ball in the middle and restart the game(you get my point)

  15. Neymar is a lot like Balotelli. So much talent out there. Question is can he control his ego. Injuries aside, if Neymar doesn’t pan out, it will be because of that attitude of his. He’s been hyped since he was 13.

Compare him to a kid like Ramires, who had to work his butt off and tried out for a bunch of teams before making it big. He still is humble. Night and day really.

  16. the thing i dont like about this game is that these kids are going to be shooting to make a name for themselves with a new coach, while the US team is really in cruise control and coaching limbo. I think this might be an ugly loss for the US

  17. Probably Michel Bastos. He didn’t get a call-up, and honestly, I’m don’t really think he’ll feature much for Brazil as long as Filipe Luis and Marcelo develop. Bastos is still young enough at 25, but still.

  18. I think it depends on the team and the way they crashed out (although I’m still quite bitter).

As a Brazilian, I’m much more excited about this team than I was after the 2006 World Cup (Dunga’s team tied Norway right after). The players here are much more exciting — this generation from about 18-24 is just awesome.

After Brazil’s elimination, I didn’t even want to go to this game — I had already purchased tickets and well, expected Dunga to lead us to glory. But whatever, still should be

  19. Who is the Brazilian player who was on the World Cup sqaud that looked like a young Michael Jackson from the Thriller cover? Is he playing tomorrow night?

  20. On another note, I’m pretty pumped to be going to this game. Last time I saw Brazil play was in a qualifier in SP in 2001 against Argentina. So it’s been a while.

I think the team is still pretty heavy on names, and not on form. Neymar, Pato, Ganso, and Lucas havent really been in form. I think Andre probably deserves the nod over Pato, but whatever. Curious to see if Mano will use the reserve defenders, who have had very average to poor seasons as well (Rever and Henrique).

  21. It will be interesting to see if he is mature enough for this level. Last I saw him play he didn’t seem to be. Although the talent is undoubtedly there.

  22. If this is the line-up, then the left side will be so vulnerable to attack. Andre Santos has been converted to a left midfielder in Europe and neymar is a forward and truly a poor defender.

  23. Am I the only one who doesn’t even care to watch this game?

After the World Cup, to have friendlies so close after just doesn’t make much sense. Give the players a rest for once FIFA.

Plus, I am still bitter about the WC and how the USA crashed out. Just not interested, may not even watch it.

  24. excited to see neymar get a call up. Hes been off the national squad since U-17. I saw him play at RBA and hes a little firecracker, quick pace.
