Amid a new wave of questionable reports claiming U.S. national team manager Bob Bradley has resigned and is set to be named manager of Aston Villa, Bradley's agent has emerged to shoot down the latest round of rumors.

"All these reports that are coming out saying Bob is quitting (as U.S. national team head coach) are absolutely false," said Ron Waxman, Bradley's New York-based agent.

"Not sure where this stuff comes from but none of it is true."

Internet reports began circulating on Wednesday claiming that Bradley had already quit or was on the verge of quitting or being fired as U.S. coach, but U.S. Soccer sources tell SBI that no decision has been made yet. Bradley remains under contract with the U.S. national team until the end of 2010 and the sides are still in discussions over a new contract.

Could Bradley ultimately wind up being replaced as national team manager? Yes, but no decisions have been made by either side yet. As for the Aston Villa job, sources tell SBI that Villa has yet to speak to new candidates for the position as the club prepares for the start of the season on Saturday.

In short, Bradley is still the U.S. national team head coach.

  1. Why shouldn’t they? He was coaching THE Bundesliga Club that was loaded with talent and they finished 2nd in a league they should have walked away with and this is whom he had on that team

    Miroslav Klose

    Luca Toni

    Franck Ribery

    Bastian Schweinsteiger

    Ze Roberto

    Lukas Podolski

    Martin DiMichelis

    Lucio

    Phillip Lahm

    Mark Van Bommel

    to name a few.

How many of the above play(ed) for their national teams.

He should have WON everything in Bundesliga with that line-up.

Bob getting screwed by the MetroStars and that poor excuse for a team doesn’t compare by any stretch of of any imagination.

  2. I’m a member of Villatalk, you must not be looking very hard. Villa fans are gutted at the prospect of hiring Bradley. While most are angry that O’Neill left, they understand the reasoning behind it. Look under the “who will be our next manager?” thread. There’s tens of pages, and maybe three positive comments about Bradley.

  3. Ever hear that they were part of Premier League setups before getting the position of manager?

Ever hear that beyond a few visits, Bradley hasn’t?

  4. I’m not saying klinsmann doesn’t deserve credit for setting up germany’s current development system because I have no idea if he did or not.

But it’s not like germany were a struggling football nation prior to klinsmann’s arrival. Finalists at a non-european site in 2002, quarterfinalists in every world cup since I’ve been alive.

I wouldn’t be unhappy with klinsmann as the mnt coach, but taken in context, his resume isn’t spectacular.

  5. Unternehmen, Same argument back at you. Why do you read a desire for a new coach as the statement that everything will change? All I am saying is let’s try a new direction with a new coach! Maybe that way a few new players will be found.

  6. Ever hear of Avram Grant? Phil Brown?

“His best bet is to join as an assistant or lower league.”

How many of those guys have ever actually managed an EPL team?

  7. You apparently hate the Nats. Did you like the fact that we had the easiest group of the entire World Cup and were 2 minutes from not advancing? Our team coming into every single game unprepared? The same 4slow2 formation every game? Getting beat 2-0 by a Brazilian team that the majority was their first cap? What is it that people actually like about Bradley? The fact that we beat Spain? Is that really a reason to love a coach? One win? He is a good MLS coach…that is it.

  8. Personally, I think Sigi would be a great coach. He has done a terrific job at every team he’s at and seems to know how to get the best out of players. I think it would be interesting to see what he can do

  9. “Because he pioneered Germany’s developmental system and setup.”

Klinsmann shook up the German national team when he took over and started a youth movement for the national team but your claim makes it sound like he completely renovated Germany’s entire setup at all levels and that is somehing of an exaggeration.

Klinsmann is very charming and appears to have a lot of good ideas but Germany already had a lot of things in place and he had a lot help. It’s unclear to me he will be able to affect the US set up down as dramatically especially at the youth level which is what is really necessary.

It’s imporant to remember that the Germans finished 3rd, even with home field advantage. Kilnsmann himself said the expectation in Germany is always that the team will at least get to the semi’s of every tournament they enter. So you could make a case that he basically met expectations with that team.

“it’s not like he’s demanding Sunil washes his car every Tuesday.”

How do you know what his demands are?

Klinsmann would be a fine hire but these insane expectations that he is would be the second coming of the Messiah are a little irrational. My money is on Carlos Quieroz, if he is available of that scandal with Protugal. Other than him and Klinsman most of the Bradely alternatives seem tied up.

  10. Have you seen our U17 & U20 players? I wouldn’t even entertain the idea of giving them time at the senior level.

Ummmm….mm you speak for yourself and personally as Big a Klinsman fan tha I am, I damn well don’t want him coaching the US Nats anytime soon. You do remember the Bayern Munchen Fiasco, don’t ya?

  11. But we have also already seen that Klinsmann can coach, as he did with the German team. It’s not like this will be his first coaching job!

  12. Don’t include everyone in your “we.” You speak for only yourself. I don’t want Klinnsman and would rather have BB.

  13. Bob Please GO NOW!!! If possible take the Aston Villa gig, but please if you love this nation resign and get out of the way of Klinssman. We are tired of yor lack of vision and your stubborness to including U17 and U20 youth into the team. We are tired of the same player selection and you expecting a different outcome everytime. We are tied of seen your face on TV with no passion or ideas for the game. RESIGN NOW!!!!!!

  14. Winning the Inter Toto Cup? You’re kidding, right? A guy who wins an Intertoto Cup is more qualified than a guy coaching a National Team to the World Cup and winning their group against a supposedly GREAT team.

Ummmm….mmmm yeah, right. The same InterToto tournament which was essentially set up so that the “minnow” teams could actually have a chance at winning something.

Furthermore, someone is ALWAYS available for the BIG JOBS and trust me I can name off accomplished managers that would have taken that job at the time.

Seriously, you’re reaching big time. Here’s another one for you.

    Bob is MORE than ready.

  15. @Goalscorer24: I didn’t say coaches don’t make a difference. I said: No new coach is going to raise the individual skill level of any player.

Why do people have such a hard time reading without injecting what they think another person said, despite evidence to the contrary?

Here’s the problem—fans are looking for a coach who will take our team, which is solid but ordinary in many areas and peppered with a few very good players, to the semi-finals of the World Cup.

It will take something more than a good coach to do this. Better players and more of them to choose from have to be major components in that mix.

  16. I dont know that I completely agree with him, but I believe he was referring to things such as repeatedly starting Findley, not playing Buddle, Starting Ricardo Clark, etc.

As far as tactics go, I don’t really see where you’re coming from – what would you suggest he do differently?

  17. Bob would probably be better off starting from the Championship and moving on up. Even being an assistant in the Premier League would probably be better as he could learn from experienced foreign coaches.

  18. What Klinsmann may lack in coaching experience I think he makes up for in that he was a great player at the highest level. How far did Bradley go as a player? What can he really tell our strikers from personal experience. What would have more influence over you as player, hearing something from Bradley or hearing something from a player like Klinsmann, who has been there?

  19. Yeah Germany getting to the semi-finals, loosing to the eventual WC champions, beating a good Portuguese team for third place, very flimsy.

Such a bad job that guess who is the current national team coach? Oh that’s right it’s Low, who was brought in by, and was an assistant to Klinsmann….

Man and that Bayern team was so bad that they got to the Quarter finals of the Champions league, loosing to eventual winners Barcelona. It was Kilnsmann’s first year and Bayern needed a scape goat, and fired him. The team finished in second place in Bundesliga. Horrible job.

  20. That would be my ideal scenario as well. He plucked Jogi Loew out of obscurity right? Only thing is could he find lightning in a bottle again and find the right man for the US manager job?

  21. Uhm, didn’t Grant coach his Israeli league champions in European competitions, winning the Inter-Toto cup if I recall? Also, Grant got his job mid-season when nobocy was availible and then DID NOT get it after that season when better coaches were availible.

  24. Agreed. There are a limited amount of games we have that will count for nothing (friendlies). Those matches are instrumental in finding new blood. We don’t need an overhaul but we definitely need to see who is ready and who isn’t among the younger crop.

  25. You can’t say that coaches don’t make a difference. Look what Bora did with the US in 94, or Guus Hiddink with several teams. Nobody is fool prove, but their choices have influence. Maybe Klinsmann will be a bust but why not try it. It seems that he thinks he could do something, otherwise he would not have been asking for the things he was asking for the first time he was considered for the job. Why are we so afraid of change?

Bob would surprise many doubters on here of what he could accomplish in the EPL. If given the chance, I think he would perform well. My guess is that he won’t be given the opportunity.

  31. I think its more like this:

    1. Player X is very happy at Club Y and has not talked to SuperClub.

    2. Club Y denies that Player X is for sale.

    3. Player X thinks SuperClub is a tremendous team and who wouldn’t want to play there.

    4. SuperClub denies interest in Player X.

    5. Player X’s agent says SuperClub’s manager wants Player X.

    5. Player X says he is fine with staying at Club Y but calls SuperClub his “dream move.”

    6. SuperClub leaks that Club Y rejected an offer for Player X, which both SuperClub and Club Y offically deny.

    7. Club Y’s manager says that Player X is instrumental to Club Y.

    8. Player X says he thinks the fans of Club Y are great, but he doesn’t see eye to eye with the manager.

    9. Club Y says that SuperClub are unreasonable and threatens to report them to FIFA.

    10. Player X demands a trasfer, but denies knowledge of any negotiations.

    11. SuperClub says they will be fine without Player X and says they will go after Players A, B, and C.

    12. Player X’s agent says that you shouldn’t take away someone’s dream.

    13. ClubY signs Player Q, who plays the same position as Player X.

    14. SuperClub unloads two contracts to lesser leagues.

  32. what is the small Internet site that started this circle jerk? Steve Davis at SI says it was one small wanker who started it but won’t name the guy.

(SBI-Why would we? Ultimately, it was never my intention to trash an individual website, but the fact remains the report in question (at least in its original form) was trash and citing the source at this point would simply be providing free advertising and publicity to an outlet that hardly deserves it.)

  34. I love when I read a post stating Bob Bradley doesn’t have the Pedigree to coach at (fill the blank) club, yet Avram Grant was qualified to coach Chelsea despite the fact his coaching experience was in that power house of a league, you know the Israeli League or that his last job before heading to Chelsea was as coach of the Israeli national team.

Yeah, you’re right Bob Bradley doesn’t have the pedigree to coach Villa or any other team in the Premier League.
