The California Clasico comes back to Buck Shaw Stadium today as the Los Angeles Galaxy travel up the 101 freeway to visit the San Jose Earthquakes (1pm PST, Telefutura)

The Galaxy have rebounded from a dip in form and are now riding high after a 1-0 victory against the New York Red Bulls last week. San Jose is a team on the mend with several key starters on the injury list, the match may be the debut for their Designated Player Geovanni who is available for selection this afternoon.

I will be providing commentary throughout the match so please feel free to follow along here. As always, feel free to share your thoughts and opinions in the comments section below.

Enjoy the action (Commentary is after the jump):

FINAL – Jon Busch was the hero tonight coming up big time and time again to keep the far more threatening LA team off the board. LA was by far the more threatening team, but SJ was able to out work LA and grind out a result. A Chris Wondolowski goal in the 4th minute was all that San Jose needed to defeat their arch rivals in front of a ruckus crowd at Buck Shaw Stadium. We'll be back with more coverage from the game shortly. Thank you for following along.

—————

FINAL – The corner is cleared and the whistle is blown! San Jose 1 Los Angeles 0

———–

93rd Minute – Vaughn allowing LA one lasst chance at goal. A corner is earned at the death.

———–

92nd Minute – Looked like a desperation shot from Lewis, goes just wide. "Beat LA!" is the chant at Buck Shaw.

———–

91st Minute – San Jose content to just push balls into the Galaxy end now and run out the clock. LA does not appear to have an answer right now.
————

90th Minute – LA just throwing bodies forward in a reckless fashion right now. Three minutes of stoppage time issued.

————

89th Minute – Poor corner and a poor clearance by LA leads to Geovanni earning his first shot on goal. An easy save for Ricketts.

————

88th Minute – Busch comes up with the grab as the orner is too low. On the other end, the Quakes earn a corner after a Johnson shot is saved.

87th Minute – Galaxy earn another corner.

————

86th Minute – JUST WIDE!! Ryan Johnson nearly puts this one on ice, but his shot goes just wide of the post after beating a diving Ricketts.

————

84th Minute – Nervy moments for San Jose as Buddle's shot goes just over the bar. The Galaxy are banging on that door, can they get one before time?

———–

82nd Minute – Busch with six saves already today. He has clearly been the man of the match so far for the Quakes. Looking pretty energized since regaining his job.

———–

80th Minute – Punch out by Busch forces a second corner, but Los Angeles remain force another save as this time Juninho fires a shot that Busch stops.

———–

79th Minute – Corner for Los Angeles after a San Jose clearance. LA clearly the better of the teams in the second half.

———–

77th Minute – Alvarez gets a great chance, but it goes just over. Subs for both clubs as Bryan Jordan replaces DeLaGarza for LA and Ryan Johnson comes in for Alvarez for San Jose.

————-

75th Minute – SAVE RICKETTS! The Quakes nearly strike back as a Wondolowski run forces a big save by Donovan Ricketts. A great back and forth competition right now.

————-

74th Minute – WOW BIG SAVE BY BUSCH!! Franklin with a pinpoint cross that falls to Donovan whose onetimer is saved by Busch. The big goalkeeper has been keeping the Quakes in this game so far.

————–

72nd Minute – QUAKES SUB: The Quakes DP Geovanni makes his debut coming on for Cornell Glen. HUGE cheers for Geovanni as he comes into the match.

————-

70th Minute – LA gets a number of chances at net, but the ball falls into the vacuum that is Jon Busch and San Jose retains possession. Geovanni getting set to come on for San Jose.

————-

69th Minute – JUST WIDE! Donovan with a great run of play, a ball gets kicked to Lewis who plays it back to Landon who earns a corner.

————–

68th Minute – Glen dispossesses Gonzalez and tries to fire it into Ricketts net from distance. A little hockey style play right there by the San Jose Sharks, I mean Earthquakes.

————-

67th Minute – GALAXY SUB: Michael Stephens comes off for Alex Cazumba. Arena will hope that the Brazilian can bring in some much needed speed to the Galaxy attack.

————-

66th Minute – DeLaGarza gets brought down in the box, but Vaughn is having nothing of it. The LA fans in attendance seem to disagree.

————

65th Minute – Alex Cazumba getting his marching orders as he prepares to come in. Ricketts collides with Wondolowski earning a Galaxy throw in deep in San Jose territory.

———-

63rd Minute – Donovan wants a call right there. His hands go up in the air screaming at Vaughn as the Earthquakes nearly lead another counter. San Jose accomplishing a lot against the run of play in this half.

————

61st Minute – The attendance for today's match, 10,799. A record for Buck Shaw Stadium.

———–

59th Minute – GALAXY SUB: Mike Magee is called off for Eddie Lewis. Landon Donovan will now be pushed up to the forward spot along with Buddle.

———–

58th Minute – Eddie Lewis getting ready to come into the game for LA. I would expect him to come in for Stephens who has been ineffective so far today.

———–

57th Minute – The Galaxy bench is up and warming up for the game. Ryan Johnson, the only one warming up for San Jose.

————–

55th Minute – The deminuntive Brazilian trips on the free kick and the Earthquakes get the ball back in the Galaxy zone. Once more Glen tries to draw a PK and once more Terry Vaughn refuses to buy his histrionics.

————

54th Minute – YELLOW CARD to Alvarez. Great build up by the Galaxy as a Buddle shot forces a rebound. The ball falls to Juninho who is brought down by Alvarez. Free kick from about 25 yards out.

———–

52nd Minute – Alvarez gets the ball in the box and predictably goes left, but fires a poor shot that leads to a goal kick.

———–

50th Minute – Foul by Buddle on Stephenson as Buddle gets his boot up a bit too high going for the ball. No card.

————-

49th Minute – SAVE RICKETTS! Ricketts with a great reaction save after a free kick by the Quakes. Glen gets in behind the defense, but Ricketts makes the save to preserve the score. On the previous play, Omar Gonzalez picked up a yellow.

————-

47th Minute – SAVE BUSCH! Busch once again comes up big as Edson Buddle gets a header off a Donovan free kick that falls into the hands of the goalkeeper.

————-

46th Minute – And We're back. No changes for either side.

—————

HALFTIME- Not a good half at all by Bruce Arena's men as Los Angeles was out worked and out muscled by the physical and quick San Jose Earthquakes. Once more Chris Wondolowski finds the back of the net after capitalizing on a Galaxy defensive miscue. For all the negatives, LA is forcing San Jose to come up big defensively, but will need to work on the final touch in front of goal in order to tie this match. At the half its 1-0 San Jose Earthquakes.

————-

45th Minute – Glen battles with Leonardo and launches a shot way over Ricketts net. Nice piece of effort by the T&T international. The whistle goes off and the crowd erupts.

————-

45th Minute – Leonardo attempts to follow the ball back to Ricketts, but the pressure of Cornell Glen nearly forces a turnover. Truly a play emblematic of the first half so far. 1 minute of stoppage.

————-

44th Minute – SAVE BUSCH! A Galaxy counter led by Donovan once more forces another big save by Busch on a Magee shot. It appeared that that play started with a hand ball in the box by DeLaGarza but no call was issued.

————-

41st Minute – A little Jamaican on Jamaican violence right there. Stephenson takes a shot that Ricketts saves. He can't stop the rebound and San Jose nearly gets a second chance opportunity, but the defense clears for LA.

————–

40th Minute – The corner goes wide and San Jose earns a goal kick, but LA quickly regains possession. LA just missing that last touch in front of goal right now.

————–

39th Minute – SAVE BUSCH! after the corner kick is cleared, Donovan leads a breakway, but his shot is saved by Busch. Another corner to Los Angeles. BIG SAVE by the San Jose keeper.

————–

38th Minute – LA earn a corner kick. Donovan continuing to get heckled by the Ultras 1906.

————–

37th Minute – For all curious minds, Geovanni is on the subs bench right now. He is available for selection, I would expect him to see at least 30 minutes today. Perhaps less if the result holds.

————–

36th Minute – Los Angeles is clearly missing the speed of Tristan Bowen right now. They are going to need someone to catch up to the speed and form of the Quakes defense. I would expect to Alex Cazumba sometime in the second half.

————–

34th Minute – The Quakes defense is working overtime right now. Buddle nearly gets behind the defense, but an Blue double team catches him just in time.  San Jose's defense looking very fast right now.

————–

32nd Minute – Stephenson goes down after a collision with Gonzalez. The Jamaican is down on the pitch and Terry Vaughn whistles for a free kick at the centerline.

————–

27th Minute – JUST WIDE! Magee breaks through the Quakes defense but his shot goes across the goal mouth. Los Angeles knocking on the door.

————

24th Minute – San Jose clearly wants this game. They are beating the Galaxy to the ball and out muscling Los Angeles for every possession.

19th Minute – Juninho brought down by two Quakes defenders, but the referee Terry Vaughn is having nothing of it. Free kick to San Jose.

————

17th Minute – Magee gets an a shot on goal, but Busch is easily up to the task. Not a great attack so far by the Galaxy despite controlling a bulk of the possession.

—————

16th Minute – Chris Wondolowski is causing the Galaxy back line a world of trouble right now. He nearly breaks free of his marker and fires a shot that just misses the net near post.

————–

14th Minute – Poor effort by Stephenson into the wall, but sloppy play by Leonardo as the Brazilian gets into to trouble again earning a free kick. The Galaxy clear, but the quakes fire a long ball that catches Cornell Glen offside.

————-

13rd Minute – A foul by Juninho on Stephenson earns a dangerous free kick for the Quakes.Stephenson and Convey look to take.

————

11th Minute – Poor effort by Donovan as the corner ends up in the hands of Busch. The Quakes are right back on the counter. Leonardo may have just gotten away with a penalty after pushing Glen down in the box. That may be some luck for the Brazilian right there. LA back on the counter in what has been a fast paced match.

————

10th Minute – Juninho with a shot that goes off a defender. Galaxy corner kick.

———–

9th Minute – The Galaxy are really threatening right now. Franklin gets a near point blank shot at goal, but fires it just over Busch's net. Free kick to San Jose.

8th Minute – The Quakes clear the effort, but the Galaxy go back on the counter and nearly get a shot on goal from Chris Birchall. Free kick to the Galaxy.

————

6th Minute – The Galaxy pick up a cross as they look to strike right back. Boos rain down for Donovan.

————

5th Minute – Convey sends in a cross that it appears both DeLaGarza and Ricketts misjudgge in the sun. Wondolowski receives the cross and fires it in on a tight angle. Very poor goalkeeping right there by Ricketts.

————

4th Minute – GOAL!! SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES!! WONDOLOWSKI CAPITALIZES ON THE GOALKEEPING ERROR BY RICKETTS. 1-0 TO THE QUAKES!

———–

3rd Minute – Nothing doing on the throw in, but the Quakes put on some early pressure. A lot of pushing and shoving so far. This could be a physical one.

———–

2nd Minute – Earthquakes get a deep throw i the Galaxy zone after Gonzalez clears a drive by Glen.
————-

1st Minute – Here we go. The crowd is rocking the Press Box right now due to this crowd. Expect a lively one folks.

————–

PREGAME: Both Tristan Bowen and Gregg Berhalter are not available day due to flu-like symptoms.

—————

PREGAME: The Buck Shaw crowd just sang the national anthem, very moving. San Jose is in their blue jerseys tonight for this game. Very sharp.

  1. Nope, he needs to gets looks as soon as possible, even if he is a bit overwhelmed like Bedoya, he will sooner understand the difference and, hopefully, overcome it.

  2. He’s on the radar, he had a shot last year, but was injured at the wrong time. …and you’re not alone, he’s better than Alston.

  3. What’s going on with Geovanni? Is he eligible as a sub? I didn’t him listed as a sub on the MLS gametracker. Thanks!

  4. California Classico is right– these guys sure picked up the script. All sorts of pushing and shoving 15 minutes in, that bodes well.
