Thierry Henry will be making his home MLS debut tonight as the New York Red Bulls take on Toronto FC in a key Eastern Conference clash at Red Bull Arena.

The Red Bulls currently sit two points ahead of Toronto in the East standings and can open up that gap with a win tonight. TFC will look to leap-frog the Red Bulls into second place in the East with a victory.

I will be providing commentary throughout the night so please feel free to follow along here. As always, you are welcome to share your own thoughts and opinions in the comments section below.

Enjoy the action (Commentary is after the jump):

——————–

FINAL- The Red Bulls open up  a five-point lead on Toronto FC for second place in the East as they prepare for Saturday's showdown against the Los Angeles Galaxy.

Thanks for following along with the commentary. Apologies for not having more frequent updates, but I think it's time for a new web connection at these games. Way too slow.

Be sure to follow SBI's post-match coverage tonight and on Thursday.

——————–

FINAL– Red Bulls 1, Toronto FC 0. Great win for the New York considering the players missing due to international duty.

——————–

90th Minute– Carl Robinson came in for Angel. Not much time left.

——————–

89th Minute– Toronto has a fast team out there, but can't combine passes to create a dangerous chance.

Apparently MSG cited an erroneous report that Bob Bradley is leaving the national team. I try to stay away from crap reports, but since MSG made the mistake of spreading the false report, I had to address it here. Multiple sources have told me there's ZERO truth to it.

——————–

86th Minute– Okay folks, I'll say this one time. You can't believe everything you read. Also, please keep the comments on this post relating to this match.

——————–

81st Minute– Salou Ibrahim comes in for Kandji.

Ubiparipovic just had a nice run into the area only to have his shot hit Angel, who was cutting in on a near-post run.

——————–

78th Minute– DeRosario blasts a long free kick into the stands. TFC just hasn't had any real rhythm offensively. I know, not exactly a new development. Mista has been invisible, but it's toughh with no real service.

——————–

75th Minute– Ibrahim comes in for Nane.

ANGEL JUST WIDE!! His header misses by inches. A great ball from Albright finds Angel, but he powers the header just wide.

——————–

73rd Minute– Fuad Ibrahim is set to come in. Looks to be for Dwayne DeRosario perhaps.

——————–

66th Minute– White is in for Peterson.

Tonight's attendance is 19,035. It's a decent crowd, but clearly we have a bunch of folks who didn't use their tickets. Looks more like 14-15K in the building. Nice turnout for a mid-week game.

——————–

63rd Minute– O'Brian White is about to come in. I've always liked this kid, not sure why he hasn't flourished. he's got the tools. Not sure who he comes in for.

——————–

59th Minute– Just saw a sign asking Bradley to give Tim Ream a look. If Bradley is around in January I think it's a safe bet Ream will be in the January national team camp.

——————–

57th Minute– Apologies for delay in updates. Luckily, you haven't missed much. DeGuzman did get a yellow card, and will miss his team's next match.

Cameras just spotted Bob Bradley in the building.

——————–

50th Minute– Angel beats the trap, but can't put his shot on frame. Probably could have taken an extra touch.

——————–

46th Minute– We're back. Kandji and Angel are now up top together.

——————–

HALFTIME– Henry is out, Sinisa Ubiparipovic is in.

——————–

HALFTIME– Guess who has a goal tonight? Dane Richards for Jamaica against Trinidad & Tobago.

Bob Bradley is in the house tonight apparently.

——————–

HALFTIME– If you are following the match here on SBI, please let me know in the comments section.

——————–

HALFTIME– Red Bulls 1, TFC 0. Lindpere with the goal as New York has had the better of the play so far.

——————–

45th Minute– Half is winding down. TFC looks no closer to finding an equalizer.

——————–

41st Minute– I tell you who has been a nice acquisition that doesn't get enough credit. Chris Albright. The Red Bulls paid peanuts for him and he's settled in nicely as a solid right back.

——————–

38th Minute– Tim Ream is having a solid game tonight. Showing the ball control and positioning that have made him a rookie of the year favorite. He had a rough patch earlier this summer, but is coming on strong.

——————–

36th Minute– Henry, Angel and Lindpere are showing a nice understanding. You can see them combining for another goal.

Stammler goes wide with a header off a Lindpere free kick.

——————–

34th Minute– Mista is in for Barrett.

——————–

32nd Minute– Chad Barrett is down injured and Mista looks like the most likely replacement.

——————–

31st Minute– TFC is definitely honing in on Danleigh Borman. How hasn't New York done the same with Nick Garcia at left back. They should have switched Kandji to the right flank by now.

——————–

29th Minute– It should be noted that Adrian Cann is one of the best acquisitions of the season. He absolutely helped settle down the Toronto defense and has helped bring the best out of Attakora.

——————–

27th Minute– TFC with a nice counter as DeRosario sets up Peterson with a nice look, but he sends it wide.

——————–

26th Minute– Looking back on the non-PK call, it was an Henry dive and bad timing because he'd gotten the touch to beat Frei, but chose instead to drag his toes and dive. Red Bulls still scored a minute later.

——————–

25th Minute– Preki is losing his mind on the sidelines. Absolutely berating the fourth official.

——————–

23rd Minute- GOAL RED BULLS!! Henry with a beautiful sequence to start the play that ended with Lindpere finishing off the pass from Stammler. Red Bulls 1, TFC 0.

——————–

22nd Minute– Henry goes down in the area but no foul is called. The place goes nuts. He went down a bit easy.

——————–

17th Minute– Henry got tired of waiting for service and dropped all the way to the defensive half to collect a ball, and yes, start a nice attack.

——————–

14th Minute– Has Thierry Henry touched the ball tonight?

——————–

11th Minute– Nice battle between DeGuzman and Lindpere tonight. Best match-up on the field perhaps. Red Bulls struggling to find Henry early on.

——————–

8th Minute– Red Bulls defender Danleigh Borman is struggling early to deal with Jacob Peterson's speed.

——————–

3rd Minute– The TFC defense is usually pretty stingy, but they haven't faced a player like Thierry Henry in a while. Will he be at full strength after that groin injury last weekend?

——————–

1st Minute– We're off. ESC provides the atmosphere and keeps TFC fans from out-singing them.

——————–

PRE-GAME– The crowd is weak, but I have a feeling we're in for a good game.

——————–

PRE-GAME– Toronto FC fans are in the house, as they are at pretty much every road game.

——————–

PRE-GAME– Anthems are done. Not sure if Greg Sutton had to sing both.

——————–

PRE-GAME– New York is hit by international call-ups, with Rafael Marquez, Dane Richards, Bouna Coundoul and Roy Miller all on international duty.

Here is Toronto's lineup:

———————–Barrett————————-

LaBrocca———-DeRosario————-Peterson

————Nane—————DeGuzman————

Garcia——Cann———-Attakora———Usanov

———————–Frei———————————

——————–

PRE-GAME– A pretty paltry crowd for this mid-week tilt.

Here is New York's lineup:

—————-Angel————–Henry——————

Kandji—————–Lindpere—————Stammler

————————-Tchani—————————

Borman——-Ream—————Mendes——-Albright

————————–Sutton——————————

——————–

PRE-GAME– Thierry is in the starting lineup. No surprise there.
