Recent MLS signing and U.S. U-20 forward Omar Salgado won't be joining the USSF D-2 version of the Vancouver Whitecaps after all. A few weeks after signing his Generation adidas contract, Salgado was supposed to join the Whitecaps on a three-month loan — essentially an extended tryout period.
But a paperwork problem has undermined that move, and Salgado will look move elsewhere for the time being after spending five days training with the Whitecaps. Sources tell SBI that Portland is a good bet to be his next loan destination.
With the Timbers and Whitecaps holding the first and second picks of the SuperDraft — the specific order of the two sides yet to be determined — there's still a very good chance that he ends up playing for either team next year in MLS.
What do you think about the transfer news? Think Salgado will play in Vancouver or Portland? Or somewhere else?
