  1. Excellent job with the new Stoppage Time video, guys! A terrific addition to what is already one of my most visited sites each day. Keep up the good work, and hope to meet you at RBA one of these days. Come on you Red Bulls!

  2. It’s easier when you’ve been there yourself.

I used to weigh 210 lbs (height 5’10”) and now am down to 180. It’s a great feeling.

I’m also used to my mom who points out anything that’s wrong with me (weight, receding hairline, attire) the moment I set foot in her house. If it’s done out of love it’s ok 🙂

  3. I don’t get the focus on contact. it’s all about the goalie and the ball. Did the goalie who threw himself get the ball before or the same time as the player, and clearly change the direction of the ball, or not?

If he did, then he’s pretty much free to do anything short of breaking the attacker’s both legs. He’s got legit reason to obstructing, tripping and being in the way of the attacker.

If not, then he’s more or less giving the attacker a penalty kick. He’s obstructing the attacker, attempting to or even tripping the attacker. That’s why most attackers kick the ball far away from their feet when the goalie is getting close and then dive/jump over the goalie’s hand or body, to show that their movement was obstructed, no matter if they stayed for the contact or dived/jumped to avoid it.

  4. agreed, would be nice to see him on air instead of Harkes telling us how he would have done this differently and, of course, better.

  5. Ives, how are you going to stay away from all that delicious Peruvian food?

Last time I visited the country I ate so much, but amazingly I actually lost weight! The difference is that I walked everywhere, something that is hard to do in most of the US.

    Cheers

  7. Great stuff Ives, literally agreed with everything you said. If Toronto FC continued to attack they maybe would have even won the game. The first 20 minutes were BRUTAL for the Red Bulls and you could even notice a little frustration in Thierry Henry. This is what got him more involved and he nearly took the ball himself and scored. After that TFC definitely changed their game up and played more defensive in which allowed the Red Bulls to hold the ball more and try and create something which they did.

I dunno what was Preki’s problem, he looked extremely mad with the ref’s and even at Soler at one point of the match but I guess it was his frustration. I really thought he was going to put Conway in the match as he had him warming up, but I guess he was just playing mind games (didn’t work however).

The TFC Sun writer that wrote 99.9% nonsense about the Red Bulls made no sense. He talks about how Henry get’s hurt with a groin injury and he didn’t even play much last season at Barca and instead of that alone being the reason as to why he is getting minor injuries and is not fully fit, he says otherwise. Must have been just a heated article to release anger but if he wanted to be mad at the loss, he needed to blame TFC for not creating more opportunities and not taking more shots at the net and testing Greg Sutton who had hammy issues.

Thierry Henry will be awesome once fully fit and can go a full 90 on the pitch, with Marquez being able to slow things down in the back and control the pace of the game, this will allow Henry AND Angel to both re-energize themselves for the attack. It will be a great thing to seem, good game TFC, although Preki may have anger management issues, he definitely is doing a pretty good job as coach of the club.

  9. Am I off or does Ives sound a little like Top Chef’s Tom Coliccho? I kept expecting to hear, “This game lacked flavor.”

    Love the new feature Ives!

  10. Regular video now? I remember when SBI was a new blog without associate columnists or a multimedia presence. They grow up so fast (sniff sniff). Can’t wait until SBI gets its 30 minute show on FSC. Great work Ives and Co.

  11. Ives, great work on the video feature. You might want to adjust the embed code so that the video fits better into the page. I’ve notice that on this and the US/Brazil post game video that the right side is slightly being cut off. Not a big issue, and again great work as always.

  12. This might sound corny but I said it out of love. After these two episodes I wanna see Ives get a TV gig. Miles better than Lalas, Harkes or any other clueless idiots ESPN has to offer.

  13. I echo what Smirking Kitten said. Great new feature. SBI is growing up!

Also, I’m a Timber fan, but I love seeing RBNY do well. It’s good for the league. I’m really looking forward to LA v RBNY this weekend.

  14. I know I might get killed for saying this but Ives you should consider shedding a few pounds now that you’re doing video (not to mention the other health benefits). Everything else is top notch. Love everything you do and hope you get a TV gig at some point in the future.

    P.S. I feel horrible.

(SBI-It’s okay man, I agree. I may not eat again until Christmas. LOL)

  15. New video feature is solid. Some b-roll video to go over you guys here and there would give the video much more eye candy but so far so good!

  16. Ives, good call on the dive. I thought that should have been a yellow card for simulation, but we are dealing with MLS ref standards.
