A busy day of Europa League playoff action is already well underway, but a number of other clubs out in Europe are set to get started.

Two Americans were involved today as Eric Lichaj and Brad Guzan both started and played 90 minutes in Aston Villa's 1-1 draw at Rapid Vienna earlier this afternoon. The Premier League is also represented this afternoon by Liverpool and Manchester City, while Juventus and Celtic will also be in action.

Jozy Altidore and Villareal host Belarusian club FC Dnepr later this afternoon, as the U.S. striker aims to make the lineup for his Spanish side. Here's a list of some of this afternoon matches:

  • Liverpool vs. Trabzonspor, 2:45 p.m.
  • Celtic vs. FC Utrecht, 2:45 p.m.

  1. Apologies, I thought Nilmar was younger because he had been on the reserve squad and last season was his first with the senior team…him being older puts pressure on him to produce but certainly gives the coach more desire to the older guy…but all this doesn’t change the fact that jozy is not the 1st or 2nd choice striker…..

  2. and it seems he had an ok outing today so let’s hope he makes the coach have to think hard about his line up*…..the further villareal progress in europa and king’s cup…the more opportunities for the coach to have to use his whole bench

  3. jozy is likely number 3 or perhaps 4 at villareal…there is another brazilian, nilmar, who played quite well last season (same age as jozy) and there is an argentinian striker that is injured and was not named to the squad today…jozy has got lots of work to do before he is number 2
