A busy day of Europa League playoff action is already well underway, but a number of other clubs out in Europe are set to get started.
Two Americans were involved today as Eric Lichaj and Brad Guzan both started and played 90 minutes in Aston Villa's 1-1 draw at Rapid Vienna earlier this afternoon. The Premier League is also represented this afternoon by Liverpool and Manchester City, while Juventus and Celtic will also be in action.
Jozy Altidore and Villareal host Belarusian club FC Dnepr later this afternoon, as the U.S. striker aims to make the lineup for his Spanish side. Here's a list of some of this afternoon matches:
- Liverpool vs. Trabzonspor, 2:45 p.m.
- Celtic vs. FC Utrecht, 2:45 p.m.
- FC Timasoara vs. Manchester City, 3:00 p.m.
- SK Sturm Graz vs. Juventus, 3:05 p.m.
- Villareal vs. FC Dnepr, 4:00 p.m.
If you will are following along or watching any of today's action out in Europe, feel free to share your thoughts and comments below.
Enjoy the matches.
Thanks for the clarification. I was basing what i said on what the guardian’s commentator was saying.
me too
Thanks
Jozy “The Tank” Altidore. Kinda catchy, I like it.
I think it is safe to say Villarreal is onto the group stages. I don’t see Dnepr coming back down 5-0.
that is good
Haha I love these comments!
Fuera de juego de Altidore, que no parecía. Estaba en línea el tanque estadounidense.
“It didn’t appear that Jozy was offside. The US tank was on the line”
Yeah, I seen that comment it way crazy funny.
That might be the greatest match commentary entry ever
“Tercer y último cambio en el bando visitante. Tupchi entra por Shuneiko. Otro que va a sufrir…”
Translated it means… “Third and final sub for the visiting side. Tupchi in for Shuneiko. Another who will suffer…”
Jozy shot, saved.
From what I read, seemed like a singular effort from Nilmar.
Jozy will probably start the return leg with this result.
Josimer just subbed in
Sorry for that horrendous grammar.
Please tell me Jozy had a hand in Nilmar’s goal…
Nilmar makes it 5.
Jozy for Rossi.
Honestly… what do you get from making grammatical corrections on the comments section of a soccer blog??
Hey let Jozy ride the pine, he will learn more with villarreal, then playing for a lesser team. As long as he works hard, he will never be like Freddy who expected to play everygame, and he may actually get into more games. Spain is the perfect place for Jozy to learn a bit more ball control, and to work on his first touch. No worries.
Also, he would be out and not on the bench for this game if Villarreal didn’t want him, have patience.
Montero looking good on the pitch.
No news of Jozy. Unless he gets 10 minutes or so, I think we can call this one a day.
Sort of, I guess. Maybe nervous as flan is the Spanish equivalent of shaking like jello?
Yeah, it’s an idiom. It means they look really really shaky.
Second change for Villareal: Montero for Cazorla.
Jefferson Montero on for Cazorla
Jefferson Montero por Cazorla
Well… Jozy for Rossi then
Pretty sure there’s a hint of sarcasm in there (I hope)
Flan is kind of shaky, right?
I want to know what “Los bielorrusos están más nerviosos que un flan” is about– they are more nervous than a flan? What? I know my Spanish isn’t fantastic but I’m pretty sure I translated that correctly. Is that a Spanish idiom?
using the amazing power of the internet (which i believe you might have at your disposal) i fed that into babelfish and it came out as “jozy altidore is the new freddy adu, never plays for villareal and goes to sweden or MLS in 2 years”
*New Freddy Adu
That’s funny lol
If you’re serious, it means “Jozy Altidore is the new Freddy Adu, he never plays for Villareal and will be returning to the MLS in two years.”
Jozy is the Freddy Adu is what its saying.
Villareal is dominating possession something serious.
what does “Jozy Altidore es el nuevo Freddy Adu, nunca juga en Villareal y va a Suecia o MLS en does anos” mean?
Nilmar subbed on for Valero.
Darn. Nilmar for Valero.
***Here is the link to Marca’s commentary since the video feeds have been swiped.
For everyone who does not speak Spanish, here is a link to a match commentary by Marca (the largest paper out of Madrid). The commentary is in Spanish, but you can get a general idea of what is going even if you are not fluent.

I’ve just been following the match report on uefa.com but if you’re a spanish speaker then marca.com will be equivalent to a bbc live text experience.
Dnepr getting Transmashed all over the place.
“Watching” it on Marca.com. No one can find a feed.
Free Jozy!
Thanks for the Rossi’s comment! I was just gonna ask you how’s he doing. Not much, apparently.
OK where are you guys watching this game?
yeah, that’s Adu’s territory….
OK where are you guys watching this game?
They need to bench Rossi — he doesn’t even have an assist.
4-0 now. Hopefully Jozy gets in after the break or around 60′
4. Cani.
