It didn't take long for DaMarcus Beasley to score his first goal with Hannover 96.

Beasley scored in Hannover's 3-0 win against Czech club Mlada Boleslav in a friendly on Saturday. The U.S. national team midfielder, who signed with the club last Monday, also played in two other friendlies on Tuesday and Thursday of last week.

Beasley could make his official debut with Hannover when the club faces Bayer Leverkusen next weekend.

Here are more stories from the weekend:

Mexico loses at home to Ecuador

Efrain Flores started his term as Mexico interim head coach with a loss as El Tri fell to Ecuador, 2-1, on Saturday. A 40-second goal from Christian Benitez and a second-half strike from Jaime Ayovi were enough to give Ecuador its first win in Mexico in 14 years. Mexico scored off an own goal from Luis Checa.

Rooney involved in sex scandal

Wayne Rooney became the latest player involved in a sex scandal on Sunday as reports released claim that the England striker slept with a prostitute while his wife was pregnant. Rooney and his family have not commented on the allegations.

Regardless of the reports, Rooney will remain with England for its Euro 2012 qualifier against Switzerland on Tuesday.

It is also believed that three other England players successfully prevented news stories from coming out in recent weeks.

Domenech fired from French Federation post

Raymond Domenech has been fired from his remaining job with the French Football Federation. Domenech, who was at the helm this summer as France endured a disastrous World Cup, was let go from his position on the federation's technical advisory board.

Do you expect Beasley to see the field next week? Surprised Mexico lost? How do you see Rooney playing on Tuesday? Surprised it took this long to rid Domenech of all his duties?

  1. Both of those Centerbacks are older than you think. I don’t really think you can consider them young at 28 and 30 respectively. One of whom just signed with Fulham. They’ve only really got Chicarito, Dos Santos and Vela, and we’ve seen that they aren’t as spectacular as they’ve been billed as being, especially Vela.

  2. Looking at this without bias, I’d actually say mexico may have a brighter future than ours…

Chicarito, the two CB’s(forgot their names, both play in the nederlands), dos santos & the kid that went to celtic all compare favorable to the young us players at their position.

So, if we are going by young talent alone, I’d go with Mexico.

You’re clueless – that bottle came from the Morelia fans who were in the section right in front of where the red card was awarded.

  4. The captain of the Mexican national team plays for an American team (Go Red Bulls!), so I think it’s pretty obvious that the question of which country is the better football power is clearly open for debate.

That being said, way to go DaMarcus Beasley!

  5. We all talk about building a fan base for the future but you seem to have a problem with the younger generation trying to stay informed. As a 17 year old and avid US supporter I am a little offended. We’re all not idiots.

  6. Mexico future is dos santos, if you’ve watched mexico play for the last 2 years, they have excelled and won against the US only when dos santos excelled (Gold Cup final, Azteca, SA).

  7. I have NO idea who the people who comment the back and forth between US/Mexico are, and I’ve been visiting these forums forever. I’m Mexican and me and anyone for that matter regardless of nationality have every right in the world to visit any forum available online as we please. So do you. As for the sophomoric comments on both sides of this tiresome debate, neither Americans as are classy as they wish they were, nor Mexicans as innocent as they always proclaim themselves to be.
Specifically about Mexico/Ecuador, it was one of the weakest, strangest matches I have seen Mexico play in a very long time, and something that on many levels left me perplexed. I’m not going to elaborate but Ecuador was a better team, and even though both teams had many chances to score, Ecuador deserved the win. Having said that this was the second time in thirteen years that Ecuador has beaten Mexico. So in the last ten matches it’s 7-1-2 in favor of El Tri. And as US fans are so fond of saying, ‘It was a meaningless friendly anyhow’. Just for the record, the first goal, which by the way was the second fastest scored vs. Mexico in history, was by Christian Benitez who ironically plays for Santos Laguna in the Mexican League… Go figure!
As for the US/Mexico rivalry, I honestly believe that the best is yet to come. And I can honestly say, that in my opinion, the new generation of Mexican players, which fortunately for MexFans are turning out to be unique in many ways, will show a level of respect lacking in SOME of the older players towards the ever evolving USMT.

  8. True that the midfield is stacked, but the wide options as usual, are still lacking, especially with Holden’s success in a central role at the club level suggesting that might be where he is best utilized. It’d be nice to have the option of a true winger like Beasley, and though unlikely, it is conceivable that he could make it to the next world cup.

  9. You are an incredible fool if you think the atmosphere at the Azteca has no or only a small effect on the non-mexican players who play there. Its not only Americans who are affected by playing there.

That said, always mad respect to Mexico’s actual team who plays nice ball and continues to produce exciting young talents. They also make life in CONCACAF interesting with the great rivalry with the US. Win or lose those games are always epic.

  10. That’s because none of us care enough to search out some random Mexican site. Also, there aren’t a whole bunch of Americans just dying to go to Mexico, unlike all of the mexicans who come to AMERICA yet bash it. It makes no sense.

  11. I’m not too sure about that last paragraph. Every time we play at the Azteca our guys look gassed by half-time, while the Mexican plays don’t. Sure you can make the typical excuse (which the US press is proud to bring up as much as possible, even before the game takes place), that the smog and altitude effect the players, but people forget how much smog their is in L.A. has. So whats Landycakes excuse, I never hear any of the Mexican players complain about the altitude and smog, even though they have don’t live and play in Mexico City. I don’t get me started at the time wasting tactics by Davies and Dempsey at the last Azteca game.

It’s sad how much American fans have become like Mexican fans. An example was fans throwing bottles filled with urine at the Mexican foward during the Superliga Final.

    Pathetic.

  12. Gulati isn’t involved with the restructuring of the final CONCACAF qualifying round. It’s supposedly designed so the US and Mexico have a slightly easier route to the World Cup, which pads our FIFA rankings and increases the chance of one of us getting a seed. It helps Mexico too.

And while Mexican players are more technically gifted, our guys are faster, stronger, more fit, play better as a team, defend better, and we have better goalkeepers. So it goes both ways.

  14. That said, I am extremely stoked for Beasley; he has always been one of my favorite players and I will always have a soft spot in my heart for him. I really think that if Beasley can get back to top-form, he will be a HUGE asset for the USA. We dont need top-form Beasley as much as we used to, our midfield is presently stacked, but he can still bring something to the table that a Holden, Feilhaber, Dempsey or Donovan will not. Here’s to Beasley finding his way! I hope he makes it for his and our sakes!

  15. Hey Ives, can you delete like half this thread? It is absurd and hardly worth reading; also these juvenile rants kind of disprove your assertations that SBI readers aren’t all from a younger demographic (re: yesterday’s conversation on our favorite American player.)

  16. Just curious where you live bro? Are you an American?

Stay classy like Mexico and her fans? Teh same Mexican fans who throw vomit pee etc at our team in Mexico? The same Mexico who had a coach slap one of our players? Classy liek that? The same Mexico when Marquez tried to kill Cobi Joens in the 2002 World Cup? Teh same Mexico when the goalie Sanchez tried to trip Eddie Johnson after a goal? Should I go on? Before you talk about class and talk smack on here you better clean your own closet first…because its pretty dirty…

Unlike you Americans I do have an ounce of humility and am okay with saying you were much better than us that day. However, our time is now and you should prepare to get stomped for 4 straight years. Stay classy USA.

Like I said bring it on…no one is afraid of Mexico or your classless fans…for th elast decade we have owned you lock stock and barrel….:) 🙂 🙂

So much hatred from all of you, it is a sign of fear. Yes you were in the CC in which you should have been eliminated in the first round, but your coach found your saving grace in Charlie Davies. Then your coach invented the bunker ball strategy to defeat Mexico(according to most of your delusional fanbase…if we can call it a fanbase). Then your team had a losing record from about October to…well now. How does it feel to accidentally make it out of the group stage? Two minutes having a lead in the WC…really?

jajajaja Go USA!! I love Jan Brewer! She is a real American!

  20. I seriously don’t know why any of us USA fans are talking crap about Mexico. Now they finally have a good forward, Chicharito, who is better than anything the USA has ever produced. They are going to be tough for Bob to overcome the next four years. He may go winless against them, but at least his fans can say they are meaningless friendlies since his boy Gulati is fixing it so he won’t have to play Mexico in a real game any more. Probably scared that Dempsey and Donovan, the only really good attacking players the USA has, will be getting too old this cycle.

The only reason you won in Azteca is that ref was afraid for his life…your class fans throwing vomit, pee and other things at our players…and our fans having to be escorted from your stadium for fear of their lives….real class fans and team….you must be proud of yourself…

And you classless coach slapping Hedjuk in COlumbus after we beat you….

  23. We were 1-2 if you want to count the game in which Mexico beat our third-stringers. What an absurd comment that is.

Go…wait, who is the Mexico coach again? Eh, not that it matters. Enjoy being the second best team in CONCACAF!

  24. The game against Ecuador did not matter. We will bounce back just like we always do. I cannot wait to play the US again with your magnificent coach. Bradley really was the best thing the United States has ever produced. Looking forward to 4 years of bunker ball jajajaja.
