Argentina faces Spain on busy fixture date

European Championship qualifying wil be the focus of plenty of attention today, but the Argentina-Spain friendly just might be the most intriguing match of the day.

Argentina will be led by new manager Sergio Batista, who has taken over for Diego Maradona on an interim basis. Batista isn't a coaching novice, having guided Argentina to the gold medal at the 2008 Olympics. Batista shared some interesting insights with FIFA.com in the lead-up to today's big friendly.

While seeing Lionel Messi do battle with Barcelona teamamtes Xavi, Iniesta and Carles Puyol (among others) will be at the top of many people's day-time viewing lists, Euro qualifiers should provide more intensity as some countries look to overcome bad starts. France and Portugal will be looking to recover from disappointing qualifying starts, while England and Germany look to build on their opening victories.

  1. Due to their being 2 hosts, the groups are oddly matched up. I believe 2 groups only have 5 nations, so only 8 games compared to 10 games that many of the groups have. So thus Spain are the odd man out, but they remedy the situation with a friendly with Argentina.

    I sure hope Torres scores.

  2. Russia vs Slovak tight game playing with beauty and spirit. It’s a great game to watch, both the action and a very nice veetle stream.

  3. I am interested to watch the continuing French disaster. I actually want to cheer for France, but it’s really hard to…

England on the road vs Swiss will be good as well.

I don’t have a good feeling about Slovakia even though that WC game wasn’t their fault..

  4. I’m looking forward to Russia v Slovakia. A team that should have made noise in the World Cup, but failed to even qualify, against a team that shouldn’t have even qualified, but did and actually made some noise.
