Chicago, Toronto settle for 0-0 draw

Both the Chicago Fire and Toronto FC entered Wednesday night's Eastern Conference clash in need of three points to close the playoff gap.

Neither side could capitalize on a handful of chances, however, and the game ended in a 0-0 draw that did little to help either side's playoff aspirations. Freddie Ljungberg let the best chance of the game go begging, failing to beat Toronto goalie Stefan Frei in a 1-on-1 opportunity in the second half. The Swede latched on to a through ball from Nery Castillo, but Ljungberg's shot went just wide of Frei's goal.

Meanwhile, Toronto secured just their fifth point away from BMO Field on the season, and had two first-half handball claims in Chicago's box turned down by the referee. The Reds are four points behind Seattle and San Jose for the eighth and final playoff spot.
