The weekend before UEFA Champions League can sometimes produce domestic league upsets in Europe, but few could have expected the number of shocking results delivered by some of Europe's top teams.
Barcelona suffered a shocking 2-0 home loss to newly-promoted Hercules, Manchester United gave up two stoppage-time goals in a 3-3 draw against Everton, AC Milan felll to newly-promoted Cesena, 2-0, and AS Roma suffered an embarrassing 5-1 defeat against Cagilari.
Dropped points were the norm for top teams in Europe, with Manchester City, Tottenham, Liverpool, Fiorentina, Juventus, Bayern Munich and Schalke among the teams failing to register wins this weekend.
Not everybody fell short. Chelsea, Inter Milan and Real Madrid all delivered victories to solidfy their places as title favorites in their respective leagues.

United always start slowly and finish strong. I highly doubt they’ll slip all the way to fourth. (I hope they do, but it’s unlikely.)
The Manchester Untied breakdown was one of the funniest things I’ve seen in a while. I give Everton credit too, but wow I was laughing so hard. I really think United will finish 4th or lower this year
