With the European club calendar on hold for European Championship qualifying, the schedule of matches on TV this weekend is dominated by Major League Soccer.

MLS picked a good week to have some very intriguing match-ups. The Los Angeles Galaxy takes on the Chicago Fire in a battle of teams struggling for points, though the Galaxy have a few more in the bank. The Fre needs a win at home to push itself into serious playoff contention, while the Galaxy needs a win to avoid losing its grip on the league's best record.

In Utah, Real Salt Lake will play host to the New York Red Bulls tonight in what should be an entertaining match-up. Both teams are missing key players to international duty (A combined six between them), but there is still enough star power to make this one a thriller.

The Philadelphia Union will kick things off today as Peter Nowak's squad looks to defend PPL Park when it takes on the suddenly hot Kansas City Wizards at 3:30pm.

If you will be watching today's action, please feel free to share your thoughts, opinions and some play-by-play in these matches (and any others you are lucky enough to see) in the comments section below.

  1. Its a trend. RB Arena, the crown jewel of mls and Chivas new stadium, is supposed to be the most state of the art. They will always hae azteca.

  2. How is it impossible to punch somebody when you’re behind him? haha Please explain I would love to hear it. You don’t have to revert to name calling, we can all try to be mature here. I know it might be hard for you.

  3. The new stadium in Guadalajara is beginning to look like a waste of money. They can’t get good attendance for Chivas and they are getting horrible attendance for the national team. Seriously, I think the US national team could play Bhutan in a friendly and get better home attendance.

  4. Henry has touched the ball once in the last 20 minutes or so.

Looks like Marquez is more important than people believe, or how most people on here overrate Tchani.

  5. As Is McBride…. He was back defend on many occasions truly a beast

Next Year though Chicago needs to play a 442 diamond with Castillo and John being fed by Ljungberg…. they will seriously cause damage

  6. You said you thought it was a red card until you saw a replay. So why is the ref a joke for thinking it was a red card? He reached the same conclusion you did with the initial information, and unlike you didn’t get to see replays.

  7. Are you saying that the Fire player did not swing his arm from behind and make contact with the Galaxy players face? More specifically the right side of his face. Look if you’re going to try to grab a player (technically a foul, but thankfully unless its ayso not called unless its a gross violation) don’t miss the grab and hit him in the face. You will get a red card if the ref sees it.

  8. I just went back and watched the red card again, and I’m now even more convinced that it was not even deserving of a yellow card.

You could make a case for serious embellishment as well. Segares was trying to pull the guy back for position, and the guy bent over and got hit in the back of the head.

  9. Thank you.

That idiot above keeps saying that Sega punched the guy in the face… which is impossible because he was behind him.

He was trying to pull the guy back to get position.

  10. Not an elbow. Clearly intentionally swung his arm/hand from behind towards a players face (chin) and made significant contact. Clear red.

  11. I just watched the replay and that was a horrible call. Segares was reaching to grab the guy’s shoulder and barely tapped his cheek.
A dive for sure. I thought it was a red card until I saw the replay.

    Geiger is a joke.

  12. Alright it isn’t impossible, but it was definitely a punch. Even if it was an elbow, I’m pretty sure it wasn’t inadvertent. The ball wasn’t even near the spot where the foul occured, and you have to put in some effort to elbow forward when going up to head a ball.

  13. He punched him in the face! Right beneath the lower jawbone, you can see it on the replay. It was physically impossible for him to elbow him with his right arm on the right side of the players face.

  14. By “rejected” do you actually mean could have seriously been an MLS team nickname and we just happen to be lucky that the coin flip landed on Mutiny, or Burn?

  15. where did the A-League teams get their nicknames? did they ask MLS for a list of rejected nicknames for the original teams? the “Roar”? seriously?
