The 2010 men's college soccer season kicked off on Wednesday night with several top teams in action, and if last night's results are any indication, this season will be an unpredictable one.
Six teams ranked in Soccer America's Top 25 were in action on Wednesday, and four of them lost. Highly-regarded UCSB fell in overtime to Cal State-Bakersfield, while Stanford lost to Vermont, also in overtime. South Florida was another upset victim, losing to Florida Gulf Coast for its first home defeat in 30 matches.
Not all the top teams lost, as Connecticut posted a 2-0 victory against St. Francis and Boston College held off Hartford, 3-1.
With the new season ready to kick into full swing this weekend, SBI will be running its NCAA men's season preview today with a series of articles featuring the top teams and players in the nation. It's officially men's college soccer day on SBI so stay tuned for more coverage.
I was at the game New Mexico is a team to watch this season
Butler with a dismantling of IPFW 4-0. Should be in the top 25 next weekend.
wow… CSU Bakersfield just got D1 status too… what a way to start off the year!
i just transfered to bakersfield and excited about this victory. i am going to the games now lol
I was at the vermont vs. stanford game. I felt like Stanford had most of the possesion and were faster making it seem like Stanford had more players on the field. Stanford soccer from a corner that went through the keeper legs garbage. uvm had a nice build up for the first goal then a great cross that was headed in just behind the far post. uvm was more dangerous throughout the game but stanford ran it.
Regular season overtime too
BC won 3-2 but its all good.
Ah, golden goal, I thought we had banished you to youth soccer.
How about New Mexico beating St. Louis 3-2.
