Goalkeeper Bouna Coundoul has really come on strong down the stretch for the New York Red Bulls and may have delivered his best performance of the season on Saturday in New York's 1-0 victory against Kansas City.

Coundoul made 12 saves, several of which were of the acrobatic variety, to hold off a Wizards attack that threw serious numbers forward in search of a precious point in its quest for a playoff spot.

Coundoul beat out the likes of Real Salt Lake's Alvaro Saborio and FC Dallas' Milton Rodriguez for the honors.

What did you think of Coundoul's performance? Think he was the deserving pick this week?

  1. What Schtick? RED BULL is SCHTICK! Sheffield is proper footy.

WHEN WILL WE ADMIT THAT THIS EXPERIMENT KNOWN AS RED BULL NEW YORK HAS FAILED????

  2. Ives, weren’t you suggesting in the gameday comments that you thought he should be replaced because of what you think is his tendency to make mental errors? What do you think of Bouna?

(SBI-Coundoul can play great when he’s on, but he’s also still prone to very questionable decisions. He’s played better lately but he still gives you a heart attack sometimes.)

  3. Again, my cousin is right! Its amazing how many brillinat people come from England.

Bouna is no Robert Green. FACT!

    End corporate footy culture!

MLS needs hooliganism and WAGS and MEAT PIES! NOT ENERGY DRINKS!!!

(SBI-Okay William, your whole sarcastic parody of Euro snobs has run its course. Find a new schtick.)

  4. he shouldnt have made it through the first half, he stopped a 1v1 with him arm while clearly outside the box… whats good for the RedBulls is good for the MLS I guess…

  5. look pretty clear on TV as well… wasnt impressed with the officials throughout the game, I was surprised to see the ref not signal it only hit his chest or some sort of gesture like you usually get, its like they didnt even think about the actual box. pretty bad really

  6. Bouna is greatly underappreciated. The Red Bulls are lucky to have him. The number of times he has come up “big” for the team dwarfs the goals he has let in that perhaps he should not have.

  7. If Bouna has shown anything this year is that he is coachable. He is the best keeper at the club in the last 5 years. I hope he carries this form through the playoffs.

  9. We have been doing that. Also they tried to get the rest of the stadium to follow suit by putting it in the electronic boards around the stadium.

  10. I sit at the top of the 18 yard box on the south side and Bouna was right in front of us. I am a RB fan, but it was clearly a hand ball. Can’t understand how the referee’s assistant missed it.

  11. he really deserved it his week, he was a force between the pipes. i gotta say though, i never would have predicted this after that disastrous blunder of his on opening day

  12. I was at the game, so I have not seen a replay, but when he was out of the box it looked like the ball hit his chest or shoulder, not his hand/arm. It was close though for sure.

And watch some of the saves he made, there were certainly shots that were NOT right at him and he made some excellent saves.

He can be inconsistent, but credit where credit is due: he was amazing on Saturday.

  14. Bouna has had a few errors this season, and sometimes you wonder what the hell he’s doing out there with poor kicks and flailing at crossess, but on Saturday night he was fantastic. While I didn’t see any other MLS games, it’d be hard for me to believe there was a better performance than his.

I had a couple KC fans come up to me after the game talking about how ridiculous he was, as they felt they should have earned at least a point, to which I completely agree. But Bouna was out of his mind and we needed him badly.

  15. I’d like for someone to pull up this history people always talks about, gall goalkeepers have moments when they make mistakes. even the best ones in the world.

  16. I think Redbull Fans are too hard on this guy, he has been one of the best keepers in the league this season. only one really bad mistake that i remember vs Chivas. He’s done good this whole time, thats why he’s got so many saves.

  17. He should have been ejected for a handball outside the box, but of course, the ref didn’t see it or ignored it. KC made it easy for him by not aiming at the corners…they kept shooting right at him.

  18. What time is it? It’s Bouna Time! The crowd was great on Saturday loving every bit of Bouna’s acrobatic feats. His face-off with Teal Banbury was the best, though he might have gotten caught Teal was better finisher.

  19. Bouna was clearly the Man of the Match. He was cleaning up bad defensive errors all night. Tchani had an awful game, which affected both Ballouchy in front of him and the defenders in back of him.

  20. Bouna can be inconsistent but I think with the coaching he has received this year he has improved greatly, and he deserved the MLS POW award this week.

Harraby, the horse is dead you have beaten it over and over – we know you hate Red Bull – I am sure there is a nice english team with a gambling site or financial services firm on their chest you would rather support – thanks for your repetitive and redundant comments to let us know you are still alive.

  21. We could still use a better Goal Keeper than Condoul. He has a horrible history of mental lapses and I am afraid it will cost us more than we’ve asked for one day.

  22. I think, even though it’s long been fashionable to bash NYRB management, the prior regime made a great pick-up getting Coundoul. Not sure where Backe’s boys would be without him.
