After dominating in the first half of the season, the Supporters Shield will come down to the final match for the Los Angeles Galaxy.

The Galaxy need a win or a draw against FC Dallas to avoid playing FCD in the first round of the playoffs. If the Galaxy fail to earn a result than Real Salt Lake will take possession of the regular season title. FC Dallas can not advance in the playoff standings no matter the result, but will look to head into the playoffs on a high note.

I will be providing commentary throughout the match so please feel free to follow along here. As always, feel free to share your thoughts and opinions in the comments section below.

Enjoy the action (Commentary is after the jump):

FINAL – That is all from me as I will now head in for post game reactions. This has been Adam Serrano, thank you for following tonight and throughout the season. See you in the playoffs and be sure to make SBI your one stop shop for playoff information.

Buenas Noches and see you in the playoffs!

FINAL – The Galaxy are honoring Chris Klein, Eddie Lewis, Clint Mathis with a ceremony at midfield while also handing out the team awards.

————

FINAL – The Galaxy put in a great performance in a physical playoff like match with FC Dallas. Coming from behind to win for just the second time all season. Los Angeles will open up the playoffs on the road against the white-hot Seattle Sounders on Halloween, October 31st at 5pm PDT.

The only bittersweet moment for the club is that Edson Buddle failed to clinch the Golden Boot as Chris Wondolowski will take home the honor. FC Dallas will host Real Salt Lake on October 30th in their playoff opener.

————

FINAL – GALAXY 2 DALLAS 1. The Galaxy finish the season as they started in first place. The club clinches the Supporters Shield for the first time since 2002.

————–

90th Minute – Buddle comes off meaning Wondolowski wins the Golden Boot. The forward is my vote for MLS MVP for sure.

————-

89th Minute – Nice gesture as Chris Klein and Eddie Lewis are about to enter the match for their applause send off before their retirements.

————–

88th Minute – LA desperately trying to get the ball to Buddle, but FC Dallas looks to kill the clock.

————

84th Minute – Galaxy team award winners this year. Edson Buddle wins Humantarian of the Year, Golden Boot and Team MVP while Omar Gonzalez wins Defender of the year.

Magee leaves the field for Kirovski.

———–

80th Minute – It looks like I will be booking my plane ticket to Seattle. Any Seattle people with some recommendations for my time there?

————-

77th Minute – Galaxy clearly trying to get the ball to Buddle. They know how much that he wants that award.

————-

75th Minute – The game has slowed down considerably due to the rain on the field. Hyndman will continue to throw on his starters though as Ihemelu will enter the match for Jackson. Shea entered earlier in the match for Cunningham.

————

72nd Minute – 24,993 in attendance tonight.

————

68th Minute – OFFSIDE! Buddle misses an effort. He's making it interesting. Question for the readers if the Galaxy earn a PK does Buddle take it?

————–

66th Minute – SAVE OFF THE LINE!!!! SALA OFF BUDDLE! Chris Wondolowski is partying right now.

————-

60th Minute – Cunningham is ruled offside. Easy call there. LA earns a free kick on the opposite side. Galaxy pushing for a third as a mist falls on the field.

———

58th Minute – Landon Donovan picks up a yellow for tripping Marvin Chavez. A bit late for some.

———-

57th Minute – Wow  LA earns a corner after Magee strips a Dallas defender nearly gets a break away but Dallas clears. Beckham's corner is also cleared.

———-

55th Minute – Dallas with another corner after the last effort was cleared. The Galaxy clear and march up the field.

———–

54th Minute – Dallas earn a corner. Ferreira to take the effort.

———–

52nd Minute – Franklin heads the ball JUST over the net. Almost 3-1. One more goal would clinch it for LA.

————

51st Minuet – Beckham with a dangerous free kick just to the right of the net.

—————

50th Minute – The result will clinch the Shield for Los Angeles. Still early in the half, but does Dallas have two goals in them? Jurnos in LA already saying "Seattle, here I come."

————–

47th Minute – Donovan sends in a dangerous cross, Dallas defender Zach Loyd tries to clear and the ball falls to Juninho, who sends in an fantastic strike from 18 yards out.

—————

46th Minute – GOAL!!! JUNINHO WITH A HOWLER!!!! LA UP 2-1

—————-

45th Minute – We're back

—————

HALFTIME – The score is tied 1-1 at the half. If the result holds then the Galaxy will hoist the Supporters Shield trophy tonight. It's been a fierce match with a lot of physicality and we should expect more of the same in the second half as both clubs are looking for full points.

The story of the half was the Galaxy's hockey-seque equalizer after Donovan appeared to shove Jackson before passing it off to Beckham, who scored.

What do you think? should that have been a foul on Landon? My thoughts are that it appeared that he got the ball, but it was a very rash challenge and Mark Geiger has been letting those go through the night.

———-

45th +1 – LA starting to put on the pressure and spending a lot of time in the Dallas end. It appears that that Donovan check was just what the Doctor ordered for LA.

———–

45th Minute – Yellow card to Atiba Harris as we learn there were be two minutes of stoppage.

———-

43rd Minute – SAVE SALA! Magee with a nice shot that Sala punches away. Match getting a bit faster now. Strap on your seatbelts.

———–

40th Minute – Edson Buddle nearly gets a shot in front of goal, but can't convert. Somewhere in the Bay Area, Chris Wondolowski is breathing into a paper bag.

———–

39th Minute – The pair of Jackson and Donovan meet in the corner again and the Dallas defender gives Landon a little love shove. Not as effective as Donovan's however.

————-

37th Minute – Dallas with a dangerous free kick after Juninho brings down a Dallas midfielder. LA on the break, but Gonclaves clears it. Firey match so far.

————–

34th Minute – WOW! Is this hockey? Donovan with a check on Jackson Gonclaves to steal the puck (er ball…) Donovan fires a pass to Beckham who sends in a LASER past Sala. Game on. A draw gives LA the Shield.

————-

33Rd Minute – BANG! LA GALAXY GOAL! DAVID BECKHAM!!!

————

30th Minute – It seems as though the Galaxy are definitely pressing as they look to equalize. Just for curious minds, the Galaxy are 1-6-2 when allowing the first goal while Dallas is 11-1-6 when scoring first.

————

28th Minute – Sala is down and getting a check up, but will continue. Dallas clear the corner.

————–

26th Minute – Beckahm with an indirect free kick off a poor Dallas foul, but Sala punches it out for a corner.

———–

24th Minute – Franklin with an extremely bad give away to Eric Alexander, who crosses into the Harris who heads it past Ricketts. Looks like he didn't like that little diss there…If the result holds, then Real Salt Lake will win the Supporters Shield.

————

22nd Minute – FC DALLAS GOAL!! ATIBA HARRIS! Dallas up 1-0 and RSL fans are celebrating.

————-

21st Minute – Physical match but a bit of a snoozer so far. Anyone up for some drinking games? How about every time that Beckham takes off his short or Atiba Harris loses the ball. Ideas?

———–

18th Minute – A lot of bleeding by Beckham so the midfielder continues to change jerseys and  now his shorts. Get that man a band-aid a lot of unnecessary stripping going on here.

————

16th Minute – LA dominating possession right now, but creating little from it so far.

——–

13th Minute – It is truly a playoff type of match tonight. A lot of chopping and hacking by both clubs. Beckham with a free kick from about 40 yards out that Dallas clears.

———-

9th Minute – a bit of a rough and tumble match so far with John and Buddle going at it.

If you are following along, let me hear from you. Where are you from and who are you supporting tonight.

———

7th Minute – Beckham's free kick goes about four feet too high and Sala send it out for a goal kick.

———-

5th Minute – Beckham with an impromptu shirt change that sends the crowd screaming. Buddle earns a dangerous free kick that it appears Beckham will step up to take.

———-

3rd Minute – A bit of a shocker that A.J. DeLaGarza is starting in central defense for the Galaxy. Doesn't look good for Gregg Berhalter's status for the post season. As I type this Magee fires the first shot on goal which Sala easily saves.

———–

1st Minute – And here.we.go. Win or draw and the Galaxy win the Supporters Shield. LA going to the left of your computer screen into the Angel City Brigade.

————–

  1. Doesn’t mean much? Is average attendance more your flavor? 16675, up 4% from last year. or shall we look at per team basis? Thanks for thinking that the meaning of 4 million means nothing, try to look on the bright side, it’s a new threshold. Shows the league is vibrant because it CAN add more teams. It’s growing. More eyes are on MLS in more places, with greater national attendance in more places comes more exposure and brand recognition. More recognition comes more money. Etc.

  3. Call it the Suporters Shield, if you like, but this is the Championship of MLS that is at stake. Every team will have played every team home and away. That is what a real championship is about.

I can remember the day when the National League and American League champions were determined the same way and the champions played in the World Series. Breaking it up into conferences and divisions and instituting wild cards makes a mockery of the game.

If we must have a playoff system than at least let us think of it as a League Cup, not the Championship.

  4. Donovan obviously put his hands on Jackson, but I think the only sincere reason the referee could have ignored it was because Jackson clearly embelished. He looked like he stepped on a land mine the way he flew in the air. The ref and everyone else knows Donovan is not that strong. Jackson probably could have held his ground and it was irresponsible for him not to in that posistion.

On the other hand, maybe the fix is in because the ref was in perfect position to call it.

  5. Watching from Houston and enjoying the game. In my perfect world, Buddle doesn’t get a goal tonight. I’m sort of neutral on which team wins. I guess I’d prefer RSL get the shield. But the match’s been fun so far and that’s the important thing.

  6. Following from my computer, because ridiculous Dish network dropped Fox Sports coverage…

And as a life long Galaxy supporter, I can honestly say that was a horrendous non-call on the Donovan shove.

  7. Dive by Kovalenko and a yellow card for that bump?

That coupled with the terrible no-call in favor of Donovan leads me to believe that the official is favoring the Galaxy.

  8. Nope! Nothing! Nada! Haha, no team with easy access. Imagine our (tennessee’s) euphoria when the USA played a qualifier against T&T in Nashville, which was awesome btw.

  9. I hope to see something from the galaxy tonight. Something that shows me they can do something come playoffs. I think Landon is going to step up. Can you say Beckham-Donovan connection?
