College Soccer Weekend Preview

It's another weekend of high-profile matchups in the ACC as a multitude of teams look to rebound from poor midweek results.

No. 2 North Carolina suffered a tough loss to Old Dominion on Tuesday and things don't get any easier for the Tar Heels as they travel to defending national champion Virginia on Friday. The Cavaliers have moved back up to fourth in the NSCAA poll after an uneven start to the season.

Akron's hopes for perfection were vanquished when Ohio State snatched a draw at the death on Wednesday. The Zips should have an easy time getting back to their winning ways by welcoming a Florida Atlantic team that is still a game under .500.

No. 18 St. John's travel to No. 6 Louisville in a matchup of Big East contenders. The Cardinals are still undefeated on the season thanks in large part to a defense which has only given up three goals through their first eight games. Though St. John's will provide a substantial test, having scored 24 goals so far this season.

In another matchup of top-10 teams in the ACC, No. 9 Duke travel to No. 8 Maryland in the weekend's nationally-televised match. Duke are coming off a draw to unranked Elon while Maryland are trying to get back into the ACC title race after falling to UNC last weekend. The game will be televised live on Fox Soccer Channel on Friday night starting at 8pm (and SBI will have a live commentary for the match, with Avi Creditor providing comments from the match).
