College weekend roundup: UCLA tops Cal in double OT, Louisville rolls and more

NCAA tab

It was another weekend without any shockers in college soccer as most of the top teams took care of business against inferior opposition.

It took 105 minutes but No. 13 UCLA got an impressive 1-0 road victory against No. 10 California on Sunday afternoon. Kelyn Rowe broke a 0-0 draw with a laser from 25 yards out. The freshman striker has scored three goals in as many games and helped the Bruins rebound from Friday's 2-1 loss to Stanford.

Louisville succesfully avoided the second-ranked curse with a 2-0 victory against Notre Dame. The Cardinals received a couple of second-half goals from Dylan Mares and Nick DeLeon and Louisville remain undefeated on the season and 5-0 in the Big East. Notre Dame fall to 6-4-3 and 3-2-0 in conference play.

No. 15 Brown, No. 8 UC-Irvine and No. 5 Connecticut were held to scoreless draws by unranked opponents. Akron put on yet another offensive clinic with a 4-0 thrashing of Buffalo. Freshman phenom Darren Mattocks netted a hat trick for the Zips.

No. 9 Butler's perfect record survives for yet another week as the Bulldogs scored a dramatic 2-1 win over Wright State. Jacob Capito scored in the 85th minute to cap a chaotic eight-minute period where Butler broke a 0-0 tie, conceded a goal, then scored the game winner.
