Real Madrid rolls again

There isn't a hotter team right now than Real Madrid, and Jose Mourinho's squad showed us why yet again with its 6-1 thrashing of Racing Santander today.

Cristiano Ronaldo scored four goals to keep Real Madrid in first place in La Liga after Barcelona briefly held first place with an earlier victory against Real Zaragoza.

Here are the highlights:

What did you think of Real Madrid's latest display? Think Barcelona can keep Mourinho from winning La Liga? Think anybody can stop Real Madrid? Share your thoughts below.

  1. I love watching La Liga. I generally find it to be more interesting soccer than the EPL. But the Bundesliga is clearly the most fan-friendly.

  2. Look La Liga is arguably the best league in the world, the games are good, even those not involving the big two, yet the other teams in the league are playing to survive for the most part, they have almost zero chance of winning it all, if anything they probably run their teams better than the big two because they have to be more creative and smart about their decisions with what they have, big club spend, make mistakes and pay to get rid of their mistakes. Im not saying La Liga is not good Im only speaking on that theres not parity, which makes it kinda of a farce, in my opinion.

  3. Among those of you complaining about minnows and whales, how many of you actually watch La Liga every week? Sure, you may take a look at the highlights, but the most vociferous among you just don’t seem informed. Didn’t Barca lose to recently-promoted Hercules? Real Zaragoza (last in the table at the moment) put up quite a fight in their match with Barca today; both Blaugrana goals were scored off of incredible passes (and it was looking like Zaragoza was going to poach and equalizer before a silly red card). Why all the complaints about a lack of parity? Many, many competitive games.

Dominant sides exert little pressure when it comes to league standings if you consider the math. The problem last year is that none of the other Spanish clubs were consistently winning “non-whale” games.

La Liga is incredibly entertaining. I don’t know what you are looking for from a soccer match, but I want to be entertained. If you enjoy 0-0 draws, parity, and teams that win 60% of their games to take the league cup, well, look elsewhere.

Thanks for posting the highlights, Ives. Much appreciated (I can stop whining now).

  4. Bundesliga is the best league in europe for fans hands down. See the ticket prices. See the parity. See the financial health if the clubs.. And see the quality of play on the field. It is a joy.

  5. Barcafan, this slacker has scored 10 goals in 8 league games, leads La Liga in scoring, and his team is at the top of the table. Don’t let the rivalry blind you – Ronaldo is having a stellar season. With him and Messi playing the lights out, El Classico should be even better this year!

  6. That God awful league!lol .. but on the real note. Barca & Madrid should just seperate themselves from the rest of the league and just play each other the whole season. La liga would be more interesting without these two giants in my opinion.

For those who are about to reply un mierdaso de hate mail,.. please Calm down, “La liga supermans”,.. It’s just my opinion.

  7. This is slowly changing in Europe, particularly in England. Once more multi-billionaires start buying more teams, you’ll start seeing more parity. The EPL used to be just Man U, Arsenal and Liverpool. Then it went to Man U, Arsenal, Liverpool and Chelsea, now it’s Man U, Arsenal, Liverpool, Chelsea and Man City. The same will start happening in Spain once billionaires start buying more teams. Also Germany out of the Euro leagues seems the most balanced in terms of money and talent.

  8. La Liga is a snore-fest. I’ve basically given up on the big European leagues. The multi-millionaires always destroy the minnows. The whole system is set up to drive resources and talent to the top, at the expense of the rest of the league. But the leagues and the media love the highlight reels. I like watching roughly equal teams with roughly equal salaries actually try to win with good tactics and solid coaching. The only option is to implement Clarence Seedorf’s idea: make the CL a permanent league that plays only amongst itself, so that the minnows don’t have to deal with the Real Madrids and Chelseas of the world.

  9. can not agree more. probably the best comment ive ever read on this site. No one seems to care around the world in european soccer that supporters of teams that are not the big ones have literally a 0 percent chance of ever winning a title in their entire lifetime

  10. Ok so Madrid won 6-0, of course they did.Whats exciting about watching an all-star team play against teams that obviously inferior to them. There is no parity in European soccer, and probably never will be. I know most of you watch Euro football, but if your not a fan of the elite of teams, you will never see your team win. If they made an all star team of the best Mls players, you think anyone else in the league would beat them?

  11. Mourinho is ticked they gave up the one goal again. Real is winning these games 5-1, 6-1, etc. when last season they’d win 5-3 or 4-3 on two or three late goals.

  12. Messi does that all the time. Messi is the greatest. Messi > CR7
Messi could’ve scored 4 goals in 4 minutes vs that squad.

  13. What a lazy bum, and he is somehow rewarded for it. On the second goal, Ronaldo was easily 20-30 yards offside.

Yet, he is somehow lucky enough to be rewarded for being a slacker.
