Steve Zakuani was voted MLS Player of the Week on Monday for his performance in Seattle's 2-1 victory against Chivas USA last Friday.

Zakuani beat out a field that included, among others, Colorado striker Omar Cummings and Philadelphia Union midfielder Fred.

Zakuani scored Seattle's first goal before setting up a second goal to help the Sounders register their first MLS victory against Chivas USA.

What did you think of this selection? Agreed with the pick? Who got your MLS Player of the Week vote?

  1. He’s fun to watch. Not only is his speed great, but also his change of pace. Kind of like Jamie Moyer – don’t have to have the fastest fastball, as long as your change of pace is good. But Zak’s also got some wheels too… Good combo.

  2. I don’t remember defenders ever winning this award, maybe i just have a short term memory, but with Olave’s and Borcher’s goals i don’t see why they haven’t been mentioned. I have a RSL bias too though hahaha.

  3. What a goal Zakuani had Friday night. It was extremely impressive watching him dribble through four defenders at the same time and then keeping his cool enough to get past the extra wide body of Thornton to slot it home.

  4. Zakuani, Fred, and Cummings did have great weeks…but I believe Nat Borchers and Jamison Olave are also worthy of a mention following their leadership in shutting down a potent FC Dallas attack.

RSL has been been recognized for its attack for much of the season, (for good reason), but the secret of their success has been a stifling defense from the entire team.

Steve Zakunani says on @ExtraTimeRadio that he has been contacted by the Congolese federation. Open to U.S. but leaning toward Congo.
