If you think the Los Angeles Galaxy's season ending means Landon Donovan is ready for an offseason loan out to Europe, think again. He hasn't made up his mind yet.

Donovan told Sky Sports News on Thursday he wanted to enjoy his vacation before making a decision on whether he'll go out on loan from the Galaxy for a third consecutive year.

"Give me a few weeks and I will have an answer for you," Donovan said.

"Right now I'm four days into my vacation and I'm going to enjoy it. I'm going to chill and then in a few weeks I will make a decision."

Should Donovan want to be loaned out, Everton is likely to be a team interested in acquiring him, especially after his impressive three-month stint with the club earlier this year.

What do you think Donovan will do you? What should he do? Where do you see him going should he want to be loaned out again?

  1. Teams are not going to pay big money for Donovan because he is NOT that good. Sure, he had a nice 10 game run with Everton but he has proven time and again that he is not capable of much more than than and teams know it.

  2. Think the issue is consistency. Sure he did well in the few games he could play, but the EPL season is the most brutal in the world and Donovan has been torn apart the times he has tried it out in Europe for a season. Think the confidence of a few managers, coupled with the high price tag he brings with him really limit his opportunities. If he really wanted to go, he would never have signed that new contract.

  3. Yeah leading the league in assists and getting – to semi-finals – is running out of gas.

Ok seriously. Landon didn;t look that great at end of season, but whether it was too much playing in England or just a bad day, well who knows.

I for one hope he goes, and hope he can land a permanent transfer by end of season.

  4. I love Donovan at Everton more than anywhere else, but is there no team in the EPL that would cough up the cash for him? I know that he is comfortable with the team and with Moyes at Goodison, but I feel like there are several teams of similar quality that could use his skill set and can afford him

  5. Actually, that’s a good question – does Landon get paid extra? If so, how much extra? I mean, Landon’s got a contract with MLS. Does he sign another, extra contract with Everton that pays him more? Or does the MLS contract simply transfer over to Everton for a few weeks, so that Everton pays him what MLS would have otherwise paid him? How does that work in the winter, when I assume Landon is not getting paid by MLS (I assume that he gets paid only during the actual season, although could be worng on that – that’s how other sports work I think)?

  6. Landon gets paid god knows how much per week

Everton (or whoever) gets the best American player of all time during a critical stretch of the season

So no value to Donovan or anyone else?

  7. Rumors in England have Donovan going to Liverpool. Seriously folks. His Wife is going shoe shopping in Liverpool this winter…

…oh you guys meant football wise? My bad.:(

  8. Playing to exhaustion = injuries.

Bad deal all around if LD puts himself through the paces of an EPL loan and then … dammit, I shall not even speak of it!!

  9. I agree. No reason to keep accepting short-term loans. He is an established player and if a team wants him they should be willing to demonstrate their commitment.

  10. Yeah Fabregas, either you stop making out with your mates at Barcelona or stay at Arsenal.

Despite your “professional” opinion, it’s not always about what the player wants.

  11. While I definitely want to see Donovan playing in Europe, he definitely deserves and needs a rest. If he does go to Europe again, I desperately hope it’s on a permanent transfer. If Everton doesn’t have the funds to make a deal, perhaps another PL or la Liga club will.

  12. Maybe he could do what Beckham did? Winter loan to Everton, play through the rest of the season, vacation, return to L.A. for second half MLS, vacation, go on loan/get sold. No reason he has to have a “mini” loan of two months.

  13. Newest Landon Donovan Nike commerical:

“What should I do? Should I admit that I’ve made mistakes? Should I remind you that I’ve done this before? What should I do?”

  14. We were trying to get an extension with him but it never worked out. The Arteta, Pienaar connection and the Pienaar Baines connection is great. I doubt any of the offers were in the right price range.

  15. I still don’t understand why Everton didn’t sell Pienaar before the season started and just put together a Donovan bid with the proceeds. They’re very similar players, and the same age, with the added US marketing potential Donovan would bring them. Instead, Pienaar turned down any contract extension, and now they’ll almost certainly lose him on a free transfer.

  16. I am not in favor of him going on loan, but why not earn some extra coin in a good league ? It is really his decision, and may be a way for MLS players to be able to afford to play here and still make money.

The why not I worry about is injury, in what really is a bit of a circus side show during the offseason.

  17. Donovan needs to go, he is better suited for Europe than MLS, having said that, I wonder if he could join a different team, probably Manchester City or Bolton, Everton is a nice fit though

  18. LA are one of the richest teams in the league, they don’t need the money. On top of that, he just signed a new contract – no rush from MLS or LA to get rid of their US star.

He needs the rest. We saw a burnout after the WC and he’ll never be back to his best if he doesn’t rest awhile.

  19. simply put donovan needs a rest. I would love to see him go on another loan, but the fact is our man is tuckered out. Homey has been playing non stop for like 2 years. give him 3 or 4 months off, and he will come back fired up for mls, as well as crucial gold cup mathces in the summer

  20. If he is serious about the Galaxy winning next year he should stay put and get ready for next season. He ran out of gas after going from Everton to LA to South Africa, and back this year.

The only reason to go over there is if he is seeking a permanent move which I doubt he is.

  21. Either sh*t or get off the pot Landon. In otherwords demand a permanent transfer or cease this loan business.

Not a fan of the annual juggling act. It actually sets a bad precedent for league players and increases the obvious risks for LA’s property (see Becks injury )

  22. He’s become a machine but he needs the rest. If he’s stuck in MLS by contract or by choice, then I would prefer that he takes the time off. Too many games over the last 30 months or so between MLS, WCQ,S Africa twice (thrice?), and loan spells.

  23. No. We have no money. We can’t sell Peanut so there’s a good deal of money lost. On top of that, MLS is asking for quite a bit. Tim Cahill will be gone in January to play for Australia in the Asia Cup. Donovan is a must have for Everton among other loan deals. Bily has been terrible. Donovan is the typical Everton guy.

  24. 6 weeks off is a lot of time for him. I think he will be itching to go in a few weeks. Not to mention 2011 will not be as demanding as 2010 for him.

  25. I think he needs the rest, but at the same time his game was so much better for the G’s when he came back from loan.

It’s good he is taking his time with his decision!

  26. I don’t think Donovan will never go to Europe, unless its with the USMNT. Donovan is content with being an MLS star….bottom line, he is satisfied with not going to the next level. I relly dont mind, because there are alot of new young players who show alot of promise.

  27. I think he’ll go back on loan to Everton. It’s a nice fit for him and he already feels comfortable. He will not (and likely cannot due to the transfer amount MLS is seeking) go there on a permanent move.

And, you heard him after the loss to FC Dallas, he responded with an emphatic, “yes” when asked whether he’ll be with the Galaxy next year.

    Just my two cents…

  28. I want to see him back with Everton. You can’t take these kinds of opportunities for granted. You never know what will happen with injuries etc..

  29. If he’s not being sold over the winter transfer window, he should stay put. I can see no reason for him to go on a mini-loan and then launch right into another MLS season.
