Wayne Rooney is coming to America.

The Manchester United striker, in the midst of long recovery from an ankle injury and earning criticism for recent actions at the Premier League club, will head to the United States to continue his rehab from a nagging ankle injury.

He'll spend the week training and rehabbing at the Nike World Campus near Portland, Oregon to stay out of the public spotlight and rejoin Manchester United late next week. As a result, Rooney won't be available for the Manchester derby on Wednesday.

Here are a few other stories for Friday:

TEVEZ RETURNS TO MANCHESTER

Manchester City, currently riding a three-game losing streak in all competitions, received a boost with the news that Carlos Tevez has returned to England. The striker was recovering from a thigh injury in his native Argentina, and could be recalled for this weekend's match against West Brom — and will be in contention to face his old club Manchester United on Wednesday.

ASTON VILLA'S CAREW OUT A MONTH

Aston Villa's injury woes up front continued this week, with the news that Norwegian forward John Carew will miss a month. This puts further stress on Villa, who is already missing Emile Heskey thanks to a torn calf muscle, and with Gabriel Agbanlahor only recently returning to training. Villa travels to Craven Cottage to face Fulham this weekend.

BORDEAUX'S DIARRA SUSPENDED SIX GAMES

Bordeaux captain Alou Diarra was handed a six-game suspension by the French Football Association, after shoving a referee in Bordeaux's 1-0 win against Auxerre earlier this year. Diarra, who has already served three games of his suspension so far, will be available at the end of the month against Lille.

CHELSEA RECEIVES MIXED INJURY NEWS

With a trip to Anfield looming on Sunday, Chelsea will once again be missing midfielder Frank Lampard, though Frenchman Florent Malouda could make a surprise return for the Blues. Lampard, who has been sidelined with groin and hernia injuries, is close to making a return, while Malouda was expected to be unavailable after twisting his ankle.

  4. Clearly that is why is brother came over earlier to do all the paper work. The deal is done. Rooney DP signing for Portland $25 Million a year. Obviously that is why is play has been off lately since he has been thinking about coming to Portland. The EPL and World Cup were just formalities he had trouble getting motivated for.
