The last spot in MLS' version of the final four is up for grabs as the Seattle Sounders travel down the Pacific Coast to take on the Los Angeles Galaxy(ESPN, 9PM).

Los Angeles is up 1-0 on aggregate after a 1-0 victory at Qwest Field last Sunday. The Sounders will need a two goal victory in order to complete a lower-seed sweep in the first round of the MLS playoffs. The Sounders are currently scoreless over their three playoff matches, but will need to come up big if they are to advance to the Conference Final.

I will be providing commentary throughout the match, live from Home Depot Center so please feel free to follow along here. As always, feel free to share your thoughts and opinions in the comments section below.

Enjoy the action (Commentary is after the jump):

FINAL – The game will take place on Sunday, November 11th. That's all for me tonight. This is Adam Serrano, thank you for following along. Check back to SBI for more coverage of the match later on tonight.

Buenas Noches.

——-

FINAL – Dominating performance by the Galaxy tonight, but they can't be too pleased with the chances given up in the second half. Seattle gave FC Dallas a lot to work on for the Conference Championship. Just incase you forgot, the Galaxy defeated FC Dallas 2-1 in the final match of the season. That match has all the makings of an epic clash.

———

fINAL – Whistle blows and that will do it! Los Angeles advances 3-1 on aggregate and will take on FC Dallas in the Conference Final.

———

92nd Minute – JUST WIDE from Alonso. Seattle starting to get chances, but where was that earlier in the match.

———

91st Minute – Galaxy take a short corner at the Riot Squad end, but the Sounders clear as they try to pull a rabbit out of their hat. Fans not believing there's a chance as the crowd starts to empty out.

———

90th Minute – Seattle Sounders earn a corner, but Jaqua's effort goes JUST WIDE!

———

86th Minute – GOAL!! STEVE ZAKUANI SCORES THE SOUNDERS FIRST EVER PLAYOFF GOAL

———–

84th Minute – JUST OVER THE TOP!! Donovan and Beckham connect, but JUST miss the net.

————–

83rd Minute – Galaxy fans chanting "Seattle" "Refunds" . Ouch. Doubt that the traveling fans will get a refund for this match.

—————

81st Minute – It appears to be all over, but the exclamation point, so lets hear what you think: FC Dallas vs. LA Galaxy, who do you believe will win and why?

————

80th Minute – GALAXY SUB: Todd Dunivant comes on for Mike Magee. Thought we would see a Juninho sub, but Bruce will trust him to go the rest of the way.

————-

77th Minute – Sounders Substitution: Nate Jaqua comes on for Ianni as the Sounders hope to invoke the San Jose Earthquakes to start a rally.

————

75th Minute -Seattle still doing their part to hold possession, but the Galaxy defense is looking far too motivated to allow anything right now.

————

74th Minute – GALAXY SUB: Kovalenko comes out for Birchall to larger cheers than the ones that Buddle received. Big fan favorite in Los Angeles.

————-

72nd Minute – JUST WIDE!!! MOntero firse a shot that goes just wide of Ricketts and the Sounders take a quick corner.

————

70th Minute – Tristan Bowen enters for Edson Buddle, who will get his curtain call after Beckham's shot goes wide of net.

———–

67th Minute – SAVE RICKETTS!! Zakuani goes in alone on the keeper, but Ricketts comes up big to make the stop.

———-

65th Minute – Yellow card to Ianni for grabbing on Buddle. Very poor play by Ianni and it looks like the frustration is getting to Seattle. Beckham to take a free kick from 30, but the effort goes far the bar.

————

64th Minute – SOUNDERS SUB: Michael Fucito comes in for Nathan Sturgis.

————-

63rd Minute – Buddle with a big elbow to the face of the Jamaican. Yikes.

————–

62nd Minute – Marshall is down and complaining about an elbow from a Galaxy player. Did not see the call, but Marshall's nose is bleeding.

————-

59th Minute – Seattle starting earn some more possession, due to the inclusion of Fernandez. Bet that Schmid regrets not starting the Uruguayan.

————-

57th Minute -SHOCKER! Montero in alone on the keeper, but FIRES it into the Angel City Brigade. The Colombian needed to do better and Gonzalez will assist Ricketts on the goal kick.

————-

55th Minute – Galaxy with a pair of clearances on the chance, Gonzalez brings down Beckham twice and you have to believe that Toledo should have awarded a yellow there. Harsh play by the Costa Rican

————–

53rd Minute – Ricketts to keep going, but Saunders to continue to warm up. Sounders with a corner.

—————-

50th Minute – Ricketts is still down after getting studs to the midsection from Fernandez. That looked INCREDIBLY painful. Josh Saunders starting to put on his gear.

—————

49th Minute – Buddle faces a ton of pressure and is brought down. Sounders back on the attack, but Ricketts comess out and collides with Fernandez. Ricketts still on the ground.

—————

47th Minute – Kovalenko with a foul on N'Kufo, surprised that Arena hasn't pulled him yet. Sounders with a free kick that is easily cleared by Franklin.

————-

46th Minute – And We're underway. Fernandez on the field for Nyassi

———–

HALFTIME – Just to clear up any confusion regarding the yellow card situation, the only way that a player can miss the MLS Cup would be to be sent off in the Conference Final.

———–

HALFTIME – LA did what we should have seen the other seeds do in the same circumstance, go for the kill early. Looks like only one of the top seeds will advance to the Conference Final.

Once more if you are following, let me hear from you.

———-

HALFTIME – The whistle blows the Galaxy depart the field to a standing ovation. The Sounders have a mountain to climb now as they look to erase a three goal deficit.  Alvaro Fernandez will likely come on at the half, while Los Angeles will need to start making arrangements to remove players under yellow card danger.

———-

45th Minute – Beckham's effort goes JUST wide, one minute of stoppage.

———-

44th Minute – Dangerous free kick for the Galaxy at the top of the box about 30 yards out.

————

43rd Minute – Alvaro Fernandez up for the Sounders. Perhaps he should have started, and perhaps a bit too late for the Sounders.

————

41st Minute – The half is approaching an if you're Bruce Arena (and I know all of you wish that you were), you might want to consider pulling Juninho and Kovalenko to avoid any yellow card suspensions in the Conference Final.

————

39th Minute – Lewis with another fine cross, but Magee JUST can't get to it. Seattle with some more pressure but Donovan comes up big to stop the Seattle drive.

————–

38th Minute – Eddie Lewis putting in a fantastic performance so far stopping Nyassi over these two legs. It appears that one of Lewis' finest moments as an MLS player will be his last. Nice way to go out for sure.

————-

36th Minute – The effort is cleared out to midfield by the Galaxy. N'Kufo with a chance on that free kick, but Gonzalez easily pushes him off the ball.

————–

35th Minute – Steve Zakauni with one of his first touches of the night but is brought down by Beckham, who has another poor tackle. Sounders with a free kick at the edge of the box on the left side.

————–

32nd Minute – SAVE BY RICKETTS! Alonso shoots in a laser, but Ricketts with the nice stop, but the Sounders retain possession.

—————

30th Minute – The Sounders have been extremely poor when looking for offensive options. N'Kufo has been the most unimpressive even when lining up against smaller defenders like Franklin and DeLaGarza.

————–

28th Minute – Beautiful run by Gonzalez to get in front of the Sounders defense and Beckham does not miss Gonzalez that time. Beautiful run and finish by the defender. Sounders down 3-0 on Aggregate now. Looking dim for Schmid.

————–

27th Minute – GOAL!!! OMAR GONZALEZ WITH THE HEADER!

————–

26th Minute – Nyassi with a very sloppy tackle on Donovan to earn a free kick for the Galaxy from about 30 yards out.

————-

24th Minute – Let me hear from you, if you are following along. Where you coming from and who are you supporting tonight.

————

23rd Minute – The Sounders with a mountain to climb now needing to hold the Galaxy and score three goals in order to get back into this one. Should we expect Sigi to throw caution into the wind here?

————

21st Minute – Beckham on the corner kick hits it into the box seemingly for Gonzalez, but Buddle beats Marshall and heads the ball past Keller. Not as beautiful as last week's, but just as meaningful.

———–

19th Minute – GOAL!!! EDSON BUDDLE ON THE CORNER KICK!! Los Angeles up 2-0 on Aggregate.

———–

16th Minute – The action early on seems to be in the stands between the dueling supporters groups. A lot of colorful language that we won't be using here. Fantastic environment.

———–

15th Minute – The effort is cleared, but the Galaxy earn a free kick near midfield after Lewis is thrown to the pitch by Montero. Fredy needs to be careful there with a yellow card.

———

13th Minute – First effort cleared, but the Galaxy will get a second chance. Dead ball chances are vital to LA tonight.

————

13th Minute – Keller has to make a clearance and the Galaxy are back with a corner kick. Flash blubs flash for Beckham.

————

12th Minute – SAVED!! Keller with a big save on the Magee chance. On the other end Montero nearly breaks away, but Ricketts comes out AGAIN to clear the ball.

————

9th Minute – Looked like a studs-up challenge and Beckham is rightly booked on that play. The Sounders with another opportunity but it goes begging. Seattle can't be wasteful tonight.

————-

8th Minute – A lunge by Beckham on Montero gives the midfielder his first Yellow card of the match. Donovan is not happy about that one.

————

7th Minute – Quick thinking move by Ricketts to stop a Montero breakaway. Nice stop by the Jamaican and the Galaxy are on the break.

————

6th Minute – SAVED! Gonzalez with the header, but it falls right to Keller.  Going to need more than that to beat Kasey Keller.

————

5th Minute –  GREAT Gonzalez to force a Beckham corner kick. That looked like a surefire scoring chance.

————–

3rd Minute – The key match to me will take place in the mdifield between Alonso and Kovalenko. Dema will attempt to play a highly physical match like in the first leg, but with a yellow card, he'll likely be restricted.

—————-

1st Minute – And.Here.We.Go. Sounders attacking to the right of your computer screen. This house is pretty pumped tonight.

————-

PREGAME: The crowd is starting to fill up, but I'm betting that the General Admission section that is housing the Angel City Brigade and the ECS has more people than in the rest of the stadium.

————-

PREGAME: A number of players in Yellow Card danger: Montero, N'Kufo for the Sounders and Kovalenko and Juninho for Los Angeles.

————-

PREGAME: With Jeff Parke out of the line up, the match is shaping up to be a titanic battle between his replacement Tyrone Marshall and Edson Buddle. You want physicality, this match will have tons of it.

————–

PREGAME: This is Adam Serrano, checking in from Home Depot Center. A late arriving crowd, but the Riot Squad, Emerald City Supporters and Angel City Brigade bringing the intensity.

————–

PREGAME: Here are the line ups:

  1. maybe. but i ask, how many championship teams have you been a part of at the top level in a(ny) country? I haven’t been close! he’s not pretty, but, he certainly seems to get the job done!

  2. I didn’t mean to suggest that you disagreed with me 🙂
Just wanted to point out the blunder of the playoff format.

I agree with you as well on the idea of conferences for the regular season, since MLS has a restricted schedule. The conference setup is the only way to keep the sched at ~30 games with upcoming expansion.

But…Garber is pretty wrong in suggesting conferences are necessary to maintain rivalries. Rivalries will happen regardless with neighbouring teams.

  3. Take your sounders glasses off. That wasn’t a swing, he had his arm up the whole jump then when Marshall headed the ball he headed through the ball into Buddle’s elbow.

  4. I’m not really disagreeing you. I was just commenting on the matter in general pointing out that it is something MLS probably will need. I agree with you that with how MLS is set up now that the playoff format does need to change.

MLS right now is really clinging on the idea that the the conferences are to build rivalry, but as long as there is a balanced schedule there is no point. Which goes back to my point that there probably won’t be a balanced schedule when MLS expands past 20 teams, which probably won’t happen for awhile.

  5. I agree with you on that matter.
A single table won’t work in terms of scheduling.

My issue, and a lot of people are commenting on it, is the playoff format, which needs to change.

A East/West playoff format is unnecessary, and makes no sense if you have crossovers.
Colorado vs. San Jose in the eastern conference final says it all.

  6. I feel like conferences could be necessary in the long term future of MLS where there will probably be more than 20 teams hence making a balanced schedule impractical, which then makes conferences critical
