i think lichaj has great upside, cant wait to see him play.
Love soccerbyives definitely the most informational soccer site around that covers USA soccer. however the more the merrier, anyone know any other good USA soccer sites? or good soccer blogs in general?
(SBI-Ha ha, nah. We shot that after the Big East Tournament Final. I wish we had full-time access to that stadium, we’d shoot there very day (well, not every day, but still).)
Dan,
The team had their first full training session on Sunday. I think they flew in on Saturday. So that’s 3 days of training together before game day.
Another great video guys. I wish ESPN offered this kind of knowledge of American players. My question is, how much time, if any, have these guys had to practice together? One day, no days? More? I’m hoping for the best — go Ream and Agudelo! — but is it realistic to expect ANYTHING from this team given the lack of training? Not sure about the S.A. team but I imagine it’s not a bunch of first-timers like we have.
It’s fine for him to say he’s disappointed with the team the US is fielding, but if Bafana Bafana then go out and lose to that same team, I would love to see his follow-up article.
And if Bradley fields a defense of Marshall, Goodson, Bornstein, and Spector as Ives suggests, the home fans will likely get to see their boys score alot of goals. Just play the kids Bob.
I love the picture of Bradley they chose for that article – he looks so arrogant!
That being said, Bradley has every right to choose an experimental squad in order to benefit the program in the long run. SA should be happy they have nearly an A squad, since they probably will come away with a victory (but, based on this article, I would LOVE for this US squad to humble SA at home).
It’s very true. We do have a fairly solid back line for the friendly, which could prove crucial considering the inexperience in the midfield and forward positions. Who knows, if the back line stays strong and Guzan has a good game, we could get a result against this fairly strong SA team.
Huh. Chalk it up to an American soccer fan’s extreme inferiority complex but … I didn’t think South Africans would care too much about who showed up for our side.
Well, it’s only the one writer, but it’s really really nice that he seems to know everyone!
Great points about how solid the defense will be in this game against S.A. Everyone’s been focusing on how lackluster our offense will be (true), but our defense is gonna something we can say could be a preview of years to come…Lichaj, Ream, Gale, etc.
(p.s. – would love to know what the name of the SBI house band is, that plays the jammin, face-rockin tune at the end. Ives on the bass??)
(SBI-That would be the Red Bull Arena PA system, which plays a pretty good selection of music.)
pssst … blogroll to the right of you …
Thanks. 3 days is better than nothing!

Does Ives have an office in RB arena now?

hah! If I’d bought tix, I’d be pissed to.
One bad part about this friendly: the likely return of those god-awful vuvuzelas
As long as we get the vote, I’m fine with it!

FWIW, at least one South African writer is criticizing Bradley for bringing a novice team. Here’s a link:

I think that was a little bit of a smile/smirk from Ives at the end. LOL.
It’ll be a god forsaken bloodbath. (We will lose the game.)
“Sporting Kansas City.”
Oh boy.
Ives, I have not heard much about Dom Cervi. Do you think we’ll get to see him on the field at all?
