Louisville showed why they are still undefeated with a last-minute victory over No. 4 North Carolina to book a place in the College Cup final. With 51 seconds left, Aaron Horton ran onto a Ryan Smith pass and chipped the ball over UNC goalkeeper Scott Goodwin from close range.
After a tense beginning to the game, Louisville almost got on the scoresheet when Matt Rose failed to clear a cross but the resulting shot was cleared off the line by Drew McKinney in the first half. The breakthrough for Louisville finally came midway through the second half when Austin Berry's header from 15 yards out beat Goodwin.
Just a few minutes later, Alex Dixon found Steven McCarthy in between four Louisville defenders and the Tar Heels had an equalizer. North Carolina, who had gotten to the College Cup on the back of three-straight penalty kick shootouts, seemed content to sit back an absorb pressure but were made to pay in the final minute.
Louisville moves on to play the winner of the Akron-Michigan semifinal in the College Cup Final on Sunday at 4pm.
