Monday Evening Ticker: Arsenal cruises, RSL keeps Paulo Jr and more

Good evening folks. Here are some news items to get you through Monday night, whether you're enjoying decent weather on the West Coast, or sitting stuck in multiple feet of snow on the East Coast (like me):

Arsenal thrashes Chelsea. Theo Walcott torches Ashley Cole and Chelsea's woes continue.

Real Salt Lake extends its loan of Paulo Jr. RSL keeps the Brazilian striker and now has the option to sign him through 2014. Could this off-season go any better for RSL?

As if courting one MLS midfielder (Freddie Ljungberg) wasn't enough, Celtic has its eye on Toronto FC star Dwayne DeRosario. It is unclear whether he would go on loan or if Celtic would try to buy him outright.

Manchester City is closing in on star Wolfsburg striker Edin Dzeko.

What do you think of these developments? See Arsenal mounting a serious title challenge? Think Carlo Ancelotti makes it to the New Year as Chelsea manager? Can you see Celtic signing DeRosario and Ljungberg?

  1. Singles cruises are intended for people of single status who wants to cruise together in a ship.Group Cruise Planning Info and Great Cruise Rates have so much fun and possibilities for both men and women to meet friends or maybe more than that. There is no restriction when it comes to age and gender and no required papers as proofs of singleness so long as travelers are singles and feel like interacting like minded people inside the ship.

  4. Well, they tried a couple of Dutch, a Portugese, an Israeli, and a coupld of Italians as managers. Maybe they will be ready for an American. Bob Bradley to Stamford Bridge.

  5. That Arsenal-Chelsea game is replay worthy for its entertainment value. High pressure + Walcott speed and finishing too much for Chelsea. The Gunners made them look old. Schadenfreude over the classless John Terry’s getting burned in goals 2 and 3. Man of the match should be either Petr Cech (who kept the Arsenal score “down” to 3 instead of 4 or 5) or Johan Djourou, who kept Drogba from getting a shot off.

  6. It’s interesting that RSL will keep Paulo Jr on loan for four years. Was the transfer fee too high to buy him outright (or would it have made him a DP if they chose to go that route)?
I’m a fan of this kid, he knows how to shoot the ball. Seen him play live against the defunct Austin team and on TV for RSL in the CCL.

  7. Props to RSL’s front office for identifying a player like Paulo Jr. The first time I saw him play in the CCL, I was pretty convinced he was a quality player.

Good stuff for DeRo, hopefully get to see him take some SPL defenders to school. Not too many technical players in the SPL.

  8. Although Chelsea were terrible today, I think Ancelotti should at least stay on for this big slate of games in the next two weeks, starting with Bolton on Wed, with very winnable games against Villa and Wolves after. Any slip up, he’s gone. Can a new January signing maybe save him though? Does Chelsea look at Dzeko in addition to Man City? It seemed like they could’ve used another striker today; Drogba looked uninterested and they had no options on the bench with Anelka out (and the Kakuta was a disaster subbing in)

  9. RSL needs to dump Campos and bring in another quality striker and the MLS cup will again be in reach.

Signing Paulo is definatly good news.

  10. So pumped that RSL is hanging on to Paulo Jr. He has been impressive in the little we’ve seen from him. Kreis is building quite the Latin attack force!

  11. How many strikers does Manchester City need? How about signing some good defensive options? That would truly make them title contenders.
