The Portland Timbers are a busy bunch this week.

They're opening a downtown Portland team store on Friday morning, and select fans and media get to preview the new spot when the club formally introduces four of its new players on Wednesday — defender Eric Brunner, midfielders Adam Moffat and Peter Lowry and defender-midfielder Rodney Wallace, all acquired on Nov. 24.

On Thursday afternoon, the team will unveil its new jerseys, training wear and apparel at the Horizon Air hangar at Portland International Airport. The team's jerseys are sponsored by Alaska Airlines, which also owns Horizon (a regional carrier), therefore the "Runway on the Runway" theme to the unveiling.

But before all of that, the Timbers announced head coach John Spencer's staff earlier Tuesday. Trevor James and Amos Magee are assistant coaches, Adam Smith is goalkeepers coach, Nik Wald is the head athletic trainer and Karim Derqaoui is strength and conditioning coach.

All but James were with former Timbers coach-turned MLS technical director Gavin Wilkinson on his USFF-2 staff last season. James spent the past five seasons with the L.A. Galaxy. The 49-year-old was also the Galaxy's director of player development and oversaw the club's youth academy.

Magee, 39, is the former Minnesota Thunder (USL) head coach and played with the Tampa Bay Mutiny and Chicago Fire.

Smith, also 39, has more than 19 years of experience coaching keepers. He and James are natives of England joining Spencer, who is from Scotland.

  2. No, Amos “Chesty” Magee is a former striker, most famous to MLS and especially Chicago fans for scoring the golden goal in the 2001 US Open Cup quarterfinals for Chicago with his chest (hence the name), despite only being a call-up for the tournament and having no past playing time with the team.
