SBI Live Q&A (Dec. 1 Edition)

It's that time again people, time for you to send your soccer (and pop culture) questions my way and time for me to answer as many questions as I can over the next hour or two.

Want to talk World Cup bids, Barcelona-Real Madrid, the MLS off-season, Jonathan Spector's brace against Manchester United or new TV shows and albums? We can do that. Want to talk U.S. national team, UEFA Champions League or the NCAA Tournament? We can cover those as well.

Send your questions my way and I will get the party going.

Let's get started (Q&A is after the jump):

  1. 45k to johnny B to play soccer in MExico is high??? I thought athletes who make World Cup Rosters would make a lot more than that… like in the 120k range…still, he plays soccer so he probably went to school for free and isn’t paying back all those students loans for a average professors salary.

  2. As much as I would love a team here in Atlanta, this market for sports is horrendous. It’s great to play in this city and we’ve had good players come from here but I don’t see a team here being supported.

  3. Ives,
What about a St Louis MLS team? NASL and a women’s team don’t actually count as a professional sports team. We cant be punished by their attendance or the pathetic Cooper. Soccer is huge in St Louis! A professional team (MLS) would be packed every game.

  4. To the folks whining about the questions in the forum: Yes, Ives can sometimes be an impatient, arrogant and occasionally condescending jerk. He’s human like the rest of us. However, he’s also a hard-working and decent reporter with good experience who is knowledgeable and cares about American soccer. Come to him with well thought out questions and generally you’ll get informed and well thought out answers.

  5. Ives,

    1. I think both J. Spector and J. Bornstein have been guilty of lapses in concentration which has limited their potential growth at fullback. What are your thoughts about how they would fair professionally if they were moved further up the field permanently?

    2. I think that Adu faces a big lack of something Wayne Gretzky has a lot of, vision. Adu seems to be unable to see the consequences of his actions (or inactions) on his team’s success. Do you think he will ever learn how to see what is coming?

  6. Ives,

    I’ve got two questions.

1.I think a return to the MLS is the best option for Freddy Adu to turn his career around. Do you agree and if not what would be a better choice?

2.Do you think Atlanta should be amongst the next couple teams (after NY Cosmos) to be introduced to MLS? And that the Southeast is in desperate need of teams.

  7. My question most likely won’t be answered but Russia and Qatar are getting the WC…

Of which, I wouldn’t go to either and I’ve been to Russia.

  8. Ives,

Thanks for all the insight into helping me chase my soccer career. From simple interactions during live chat, via e-mail, facebook, and meeting in person at the Hartford match in May, you’ve been nothing but a pleasure. Hopefully our paths cross somewhere down the road in the world of soccer

  9. The City of Chicago is still being punished for being the first expansion team to win a Cup in their first year. Got too greedy too early!!
