Soccer Saturday: Your Running Commentary

MilanRoma

AC Milan is cruising toward a Serie A title, but a stiff test from Francesco Totti and AS Roma awaits today.

Milan has a six-point lead atop Serie A, with three different teams tied for second, and if any of them are going to close the gap it will be up to the Romans, who are 5-1-2 in their past eight matches.

In England, snow has wreaked havoc on the schedule, with Arsenal-Stoke City, Liverpool-Fulham, Birmingham-Newcastle and Wigan-Aston Villa already postponed for today due to heavy snow overnight. One match that is still on is this morning's Bolton-Sunderland tilt, which will feature red-hot Stuart Holden.

For those hoping to see Chelsea-Manchester United on Sunday, that match has ALSO been postponed.

If you will be watching today's action, please feel free to share your thoughts, opinions and some play-by-play in the comments section below.

  1. While we continue to wonder why on earth Newcastle fired manager Chris Hughton and replaced him with Alan Pardew, the Magpies are back in action today and will take on a club with its own shaky managerial situation in Liverpool.

  2. Well hey it’s not really their fault or Bob’s fault. It’s not like he can call them up for the January camp. And for regular A team friendlies during the Euro league season, he typically only calls up 2 keepers.

And Robles has gotten looks. He had 1 game at the Gold Cup (and didn’t look that great) and was on the roster for Confederations Cup.

With Hahnemann aging and not getting playing time with Wolves, the 3rd keeper spot for the 2011 Gold Cup is wide open. Robles, Yelldell, Cervi and the MLS Keepers (probably Rimando, Hartman, Pickens, Johnson, etc.) all have a decent shot at that 3rd goalkeeper spot.

  3. Edu is a much better player the Clark. So is feilhaber( although he is now on we team in a horrible division, so maybe he looses a lot of consideration for that).

  4. Did you not just complain about people on this board taking things to seriously, and how people are too intense? Seems you can dish but can’t take it. Gol showed clark as a defender, thats all the kid was saying.

(SBI-That’s fine Rob, but for the guy to talk trash about something that was clearly wrong opens him up to take some jabs.)

  5. Does anyone know why the Club World Cup is only played in Japan and UAE? It seems like they are missing out on lots of other potential legacy locations (like the US).

  6. It sure is a shame, ISAF. Robles had a great match last weekend and the Karlsruhe fans are delighted with his play. I saw, met, Yeldell when he was at Koblenz and teamed with Matthew Taylor at the time. Both, specifically Robles, are quality keeprs and deserve more of a shot than do those second class MLS keepers.

  7. He started for Frankfurt for a while before the world cup. I think his days as a starter are done. He is to inconsistent on the national team.

  8. well, lets be honest? who could really see him starting over Bradley, Holden, or Jones…HOWEVER, if he keeps this sort of play up, I can see him getting a nod over the likes of Torres, Feilhaber, Spector, & Edu as the first choice sub

  9. Ives- Because the pre-game lineup cards had him listed as a defender and the German press has been talking about it for two days. Seriously, do you do any research?

(SBI-Pre-game lineup cards? Is this baseball? He’s never played defender for Eintracht and still hasn’t. He’s a defensive midfielder. Perhaps your “research” was faulty, or perhaps you should realize that TV stations don’t always get player’s positions right in the pre-game graphics.)

  10. Did anyone else notice the Blackburn keeper kick snow onto the WestHam player when he fell behind the end line? That was kinda funny
