Soccer Saturday: Your Running Commentary

  LionelMessi (Reuters)

FC Barcelona is still basking in the afterglow of its five-goal masterpiece against Real Madrid, but the Spanish champions will have to get back to work today.

Barcelona will be taking on Osasuna today and will be looking to avoid a letdown that could let Real Madrid close the gap atop the Spanish First Division.

AC Milan is also in action today and can regain sole possession of first place in Serie A with a win after Lazio registered a victory against Inter Milan on Friday to pull into a tie with AC Milan.

  1. One more factor with Dempsey-unless it’s a ManU or someone like that, would you rather live in a nice part of London (fulham) or in the north of England? If he is playing and all else is fairly even , I bet he stays at Fulham unless they go down….

  2. The thing that gets me is that it isn’t the sun reporting this, it is two legit newspapers out of the UK. It will be tough to decide which way is the truth.

We can take Blazer at his word, or you can believe the two newspaper reports. I am sure this will never be able to be proven either way.

  3. Guys if you want to know about chuck blazer he has a blog… Just google search him….

He has an article with many shots of him and Putin in what seems like trips all over Russia

  4. Here’s how it went down.

Blazer: “Seppy, who do you want for 2022?”

    Seppy: “Qatar.”

Blazer: “Ok, my vote is for Qatar then.”

Seppy. “Thanks.” (Hands Blazer a fat envelope)

Guys, Blazer is Sepp’s lapdog. He will do whatever Sepp wants, because Sepp put Blazer there and keeps him there. Screw the US bid, Blazer’s allegiance is to Sepp above anything else.

Sad, sad, sad story but true. Rotten to the core.

  5. Technical skill – Serie A may have the EPL. But in terms of atmosphere and pace it’s tough to beat the EPL. To me it’s like watching college basketball compared to NBA basketball. Personally I’ll take slightly inferior skill with loads of passion and delirious fans.

  6. Update Chuck Blazer has written a letter to ESPN claiming he voted for the US in every round, however the Guardian is now reporting the opposite is true.

  7. At 30K Pounds a week his wife…

    1. Can afford a full time nanny.
    2. Doesn’t have to work ever again for life.
    3. Speak the international language. Money.

    Lol! jk, but not really.

  8. Just did. If true, this is absolutely incredible. Every soccer fan in America needs to raise their voice to create change. These scumbags cost us a World Cup. It’s unforgivable.

  9. Hopefully, just spread the word. Hope Ives does an article about this (using the independent as a source). Every US soccer fan needs to know this.

  10. We didn’t vote for ourselves?

I think it is about time the FBI get involved. We spent millions and millions of dollars on that bid, and Chuck Blazer and the rest of CONCACAF was bought off and didn’t even vote for us?

  11. Mark Schwarzer was Fulham’s best player today, Pantsil was decent as well

Murphy was terrible he gets worse every week. Too many giveaways from the midfield and backline

And yea Dempsey is on fire, unfortunately no one else can score or create anything

  12. Ives do you know if these rumors about Chuck Blazer voting for Qatar are true? Could you write an article about it if is?

    People should know about this!

  13. Then stop tripping.

There’s one way and one way only to fix all this crap. The US, England, Germany, Spain, and the other major European nations leave FIFA and form their own governing body until FIFA makes changes in transparency and roots our corruption. If that means those nations skip the world cup, then so be it. FIFA will come back begging if the major European nations pull out of the cup and don’t show the program on television.

Anything less and Bladder and his cronies will continue to operate this way. It’s time the big boys started playing hardball.

  14. Everton and AV quality top half teams?

Have you looked at the table this season?? They are two points above Fulham and the idiots on this board would rather see Dempsey go somewhere where he’ll be coming off the bench

  15. Good find Rob…if true it really is unbelievable. I called my best soccer bud b/c I had to talk about this with someone.

And the last (i think) bullit point that suggested the US and England are contemplating a rebellion…This I would support.

  16. Anyone who thinks Dempsey is leaving in January is dreaming he’s the only player scoring goals and they’re in a relegation battle.

And if they stay up chances are he stays. Reason: His age, his family

  17. whoa whoa hold on a second…..3 votes swing would have turned that 14-8 loss to a 11-11 tie if our 3 guys did indeed vote the other way. I am tripping right now
