  2. I may be wrong but, I thought Qatar (according to some report; from fifa i believe) was the country with the biggest “risk”? and now…..

  3. I hope I hear a real opinion from Sunil Gulati, not a water downed, ‘disappointed but proud of our effort’ soundbite.

The people that Sunil paints with a dirty brush will not be around for 2026 and Sunil will not be in charge of the US bid when 2026 is awarded. So now its the time to say it Sunil, everyone is listening.

  4. Just get over it. Both US and ENG based their bids around existing stadiums and infrastructure. What Blatter and FIFA wanted was a bunch of white elephants and social impact so people in SA, Brasil, Russia and Qatar will say “this” is here because of FIFA and the WC…

  5. The process of selection is flawed beyond belief. Qatar most likely used their money to influence the outcome. I am happy for Russia though. They have the winter olympics and the world cup now.

  6. Don’t worry, with all of their draconian laws they still love their prostitutes (even under age!), so it’s perfect for the WC.

  7. Josh, this is just the start…

The Middle East is one of the most intolerant places on Earth and political correctness dictates that you have to bow down to people of intolerance to help bring them into the modern world.

Think China Olympics… Russia, where true and unbridled racism exists on a grand scale should be fun for the world. Russia, where corruption runs at the highest level and where journos are shot to death for going against the government.

    Great Choice FIFA!

  8. “t is a punishable offence to drink alcohol or be drunk in public. Offenders may incur a prison sentence or deportation. Alcohol is, however, available at licensed hotel restaurants and bars, and expatriates living in Qatar can obtain alcohol on a permit system. You should not carry alcohol with you, including in your car (except to take it on the day of collection from the warehouse to your home).

You should dress modestly when in public, including whilst driving. Women should cover their shoulders and avoid wearing short skirts. You should behave courteously at all times. Any intimacy in public between men and women (including between teenagers) can lead to arrest. Homosexual behaviour is illegal in Qatar. ”

  9. No surprise at all. Sepp only cares about his “legacy” Why do you think he did two at once this time? Because he won’t be around or maybe wouldn’t have been around for 2022.

Can’t wait for England to now ban the BBC.

  10. Definitely not Gulati’s fault. All he could have done was bribe them more than Qatar-high hurdle to climb. At least he was honorable.

  11. Ya know good for Qatar but honestly we’re talking potential issues that Fifa really needs to consider
    – Country laws…check them out very very conservative
    – Heat
    – Size and avail of training sites
