Fresh reports out of England indicate that David Beckham and Tottenham are interested in a short-term loan but have yet to receive permission from the L.A. Galaxy.
Beckham is trying to secure a loan in order to keep himself in the England picture after Fabio Capello said that he was unlikely to call up the former captain again. Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp confirmed the club's interest following Spurs' 1-0 victory over Fulham last week and the 35-year-old midfielder could play up to 11 games for a Premier League club before the MLS season resumes in mid-March. If a deal was confirmed within the next week, Beckham could face off against Manchester United at White Heart Lane on January 16 and AC Milan in the Champions League.
A spokesman for the Galaxy told the BBC that a decision had not been made and that a statement was "not imminent."
Here are some more stories to get your Monday going.
Kaka to return for Real Madrid
Real Madrid midfielder Kaka is set to make his season debut against Getafe today. The Brazilian star has been out since August due to surgery on his left knee. Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho said that Kaka is not ready to start but could play for 15 or 20 minutes. Madrid is currently in second place in the La Liga table and just received news that it will be without Gonzalo Higuain for an extended period after the striker underwent back surgery.
FIFA plans anti-corruption committee
In an attempt to clear up the embattled organization's image, Sepp Blatter announced yesterday that FIFA will set up an anti-corruption committee to police the game's governing body. Blatter said that the committee would strengthen FIFA's credibility and give it a new image in terms of transparency. Blatter will not sit on the committee and no time line has been announced for when such a committee would actually take effect.

What do you think of today's stories? Should Beckham go on loan? Will Kaka make a difference for Real Madrid? Will a FIFA committee assuage your fears of corruption?

made my day, well said lol
What good is a ant-corruption agency if it is setup by the agency it is suppose to keep an eye on?
I’ve never heard that one before, but it is brilliant.
Becks is making it more and more apparent that no matter what he says, ending his England career on his terms is priority #1. Not his commitment to MLS/Galaxy, not his loyalty to Man U. It’s all about him and writing a better end to his national team career than sitting in a suit on the sidelines, watching his team flounder in South Africa.
On the FIFA thing, if you read the BBC article, Blatter destroys any credibility this anti-corruption committee would have had by saying: “I will take care of it personally, to ensure there is no corruption at Fifa.”
Sepp, meet reality. It’s been a long, long time since the two of you have been in touch, and it’s about time you reconnected.
Maybe an interview for MLS.
Give it up Beckham, its over and you got hurt last time and screwed the team that pays your salary.
Why would they want to loan you again?
Stop lying!
Yeah! That is hilllarrrrious.
I heard on Sky Sports the other night that the anti-corruption committee will consist of “Politicians, Businessmen, and other non-sport related professions”. I actually laughed out loud.
Beckham=Favre
Beckham obviously only cares about himself and his meaningless English caps (where are the trophies?). I wish he would just go away and play with Tom Cruise. Even more annoying is Sepp Blatter, who thinks the world is his playground. He fell off his rocker a long time ago. I don’t believe anything he says anymore. I have officially included him in the same social class as a frog.
It’s open now.
My luck, the Rapids would sign this “Temes” you speek of if all those guys suddenly lost thier minds and cmae to the MLS this year.
January 1st.
Good God… that’s the the Empire creating an Anti-Death Star committee after the the original Star Wars. Can anyone in the universe take FIFA seriously at this point???
(and yes, I will proudly accept the nomination for nerdiest metaphor… a thank you very much.)
Anti-corruption committees are like leak investigations: the purpose is not to do something, but to be SEEN AS doing something–just as, to quote Sir Humphrey Appleby, “the purpose of issuing an official clarification statement is not to clarify an earlier misstatement, but to put the speaker IN THE CLEAR.”
It’s sad that Beckham is more interested in loans than he is n playing for the Galaxy. I thought he said he didn’t want a loan this year and was going to focus on LA in his final year?
When does the transfer window officially open?
“meet the new boss. same as the old boss.” The Who.
What happened to “I’ll only play for Man U”? Wait, Beckham going against what he said? Crazy talk!!! Let him go, send over Keane, Crouch, Ibrahimovich(sp?), Kaka, Schweinstieger, and Ternes. What a crew that would be!!!
Beckham, you’re 35, injury prone, and only have one outstanding quality left. Capello may be coach, but even Italians know when to put a horse to pasture.
as a casual MLS fan for several years, i was excited to see MLS draw big names. last year was my first year of following MLS intently. I was very pleased with the product on the field. yes, it can still improve but it is still a quality product. i think the next big step for MLS is to start drawing these big names in their prime and not necessarily when they are on the decline. when that happens, then MLS has taken a big step to the next level.
can’t wait for the season to start!
This just in: FIFA has secured loans from Qatar and Russia to fund the most elaborate anti-corruption campaign of all time. To be considered for the committee please forward your bribe/wage demands and rap sheet…. er, resume, to Sepp Blatter’s legal team.
Beckham news is dissapointing, always thought he was a decent guy, but turns out he is like all aging athletes, the spot light starts to fade and they cant handle it.
Good news for Paul Mariner, a good guy and was well liked by all in Revs land…sad to see him gone.
Is the 15 minutes Kaka getting today and audition for someone else? Say Man U or Inter? Should be interesting over the next few days…
Thats like asking Junkies to keep inventory of heroine stashes
Plus ça change, plus c’est la même chose — i.e., The more things change, the more they stay the same.
The notion of investigating oneself for an apparent act or continuing act of corruption, is by definition, corrupt.
They most certainly take us for a bunch of suckers.
Jack Warner will head the new committee.
I will only take a FIFA anti-corruption probe if it is independent of the organization. What they propose is….well, corrupt.
Ha! what a joke! FIFA plans anti-corruption committee. The cat is hiring mice to watch the cheese.
FIFA anti-corruption committee = A Contradiction in terms
I don’t think I will ever be able to believe that FIFA will do a thorough job of policing themselves. I don’t know what the answer there is, but hiring an outside organization would seem more unbiased.
can they take him permanently were sick of his Sh#t out here in LA.
anti corruption= easier way to be more corrupt
Beckham looking for another European loan to keep his international career going.
FIFA postures about corruption.
Jack Warner is still running the CFU, CONCACAF and a big wheel in the organization.
And he is just one of many shady. powerful types.
New year.
Same old news.
