This Weekend’s Soccer on TV

If you're hoping to see some Americans making their debuts with new clubs, then this is a good weekend for Soccer on TV.

Jermaine Jones will make his Blackburn debut in a match airing on Fox Soccer Channel, while Robbie Findley's Nottingham Forest debut is airing on Saturday on Fox Soccer Plus.

England isn't the only place to see Americans in action. Ricardo Clark will look to keep getting minutes when Eintracht Frankfurt faces Hamburg on GolTV, while Herculez Gomez, Jose Torres and Pachuca will be playing on Galavision on Saturday night.

The match of the weekend will take place later on Saturday night, when the United States takes on Chile in the first match of the new year for the national team.

  1. Time Warner in San Diego has both in HD. Agreed it doesn’t look quite as sharp as ESPN or the major networks. Still looks darn good though, no complaints here

  2. Where in DC can you get Cox or FIOS? I thought Comcast and RCN were the only options (at least up her in the NE)…

I both are available in the VA/MD suburbs, but not in the District itself…

  3. Unfortunately there are things called contracts the control rights to broadcast games. ESPN simply doesn’t have the rights to many games yet.

  4. If you can have it, DirecTV is the only way to go. FSC, FSP, and GolTV in HD, not too mention all of the extra Champions League, UEFA Cup, and La Liga games that aren’t on the regular channels.

  6. Buddle definitely looking dangerous. Just forced a corner, and a few minutes earlier he fired a shot straight at the keeper from 11 yards out.

  7. In DC…Cox Cable has both in HD, but Plus is like an additional $13/month. For FIOS, FSC is NOT in HD because they are lazy (channel 584 is available!). Not sure about Plus, it’s $13 more a month just for that channel.

  8. Buddle starting to get comfortable up top at Ingolstadt. Still 0-0, with Buddle having two chances on goal with his head in first half. SHould have connected on second chance.

  9. whatever happened to ESPN2 showing a La Liga match on Sundays at Noon?

I swear Espn2 needs to show at least 2 PL games every Saturday and 2 La Liga matches every Sunday. Or Bundesliga. Be committed to content. Fans will watch. Don’t let FSC or Galavision take all the control.

  10. In Portland Maine, I get Plus in HD but not FSC. I think it’s because I called every week when we didn’t get Plus at all and they were so annoyed they ramped it up to HD to make sure I stopped calling.

I should prolly complain about FSC not being in 3D and without Smell-O-Vision.
