Tuesday Kickoff: Japan downs S. Korea, Rossi signs extension and more

Arch-rivals Japan and South Korea played a memorable Asian Cup semifinal on Tuesday that came down to dramatic penalty kicks. Kicks South Korea wasn't ready for.

Japan converted three of four penalties while South Korea missed all three attempts to send Japan to the Asian Cup Final, where the winner of Australia/Uzbekistan awaits.

Japan took a 2-1 lead on a controversial penalty call, but South Korea equalized in the final seconds of overtime to send the match to penalties.

Here are some other stories to get your Tuesday rolling:

ROSSI SIGNS EXTENSION

Villarreal striker Giuseppe Rossi is already his club's leading scorer, but now he could have much longer to add to that record-setting total after signing a three-year extension with the Spanish club.

Rossi has been the subject of several transfer rumors, with clubs such as Tottenham being linked to a move for the New Jersey native.

VAN BOMMEL JOINS MILAN

Dutch national team captain Mark Van Bommel has joined AC Milan on a free transfer after being allowed to leave by Bayern Munich.

A strained relationship between Van Bommel and Bayern Munich manager Louis Van Gaal helped push the move forward.

QUICK KICKS

Chelsea is closing in on David Luiz transfer.

After being denied the chance to sign Ruud van Nistelrooy, Real Madrid is set to add Emmanuel Adebayor.

Van Nistelrooy wasn't happy about being denied his Madrid move, so now he won't re-sign with Hamburg.
