UCSB’s Tetteh added to the Generation adidas class

UCSB left winger/fullback Michael Tetteh has been added to the MLS Generation adidas draft class, UCSB head coach Tim von Steeg confirmed to SBI on Wednesday.

First reported by Presidio Sports, Tetteh's inclusion raises the number of Generation adidas players in the 2011 MLS Draft to ten.

Tetteh is a speedy left-footed player who projects as an attacking fullback on the pro level. A Generation adidas target since last year, Tetteh saw his 2010 derailed by injuries. That didn't keep MLS from signing up one of the best left-footed prospects in the nation.

Tetteh projects as a first-round talent, and will take part in this weekend's MLS Combine in Fort Lauderdale.

  1. Yeah, I would assume he’s not a citizen and will have the same long wait time that others have faced. And he’s already 22 so if he’s good enough and Ghana calls their is no way he’s holding out to play for the US…unless of course he’s been on the path to citizenship for 3 or 4 years already.

  2. Huge +1 to a draft class that was looking light on defenders in general and fullbacks specifically. Due to positional ability and the potential for a reach, Tetteh could feasibly go anywhere in the first round – he’ll be a hard pick to predict. Nice addition.

  3. Actually, does anyone know if he’s a U.S. citizen? He was born in Ghana but has been here for at least 6 years (played 3 years in high school, 3 at UCSB). Would he count as a senior international roster spot by the team that drafts him? Or does that not apply to Gen adidas class?

  4. I was wondering if any of the 2 or 3 top UCSB underclassmen were going to be late additions to GA…thought maybe they decided against leaving school early.
