Altidore’s arrival in Turkey

Comments

  1. Turkish fans are always enthusiastic when a new player arrives and they get even more enthusiastic if he has success on the field. However, if a player flops/has a bad game they can become extremely hostile. They are very passionate.

  2. Me too. You just showed your age. I would have the same look of fear Jozy has. It just goes to show my complete ignorance of Turkish culture.

I would think it would be a little disconcerting for a young kid from New Jersey.

  3. That’s pretty cool. I mean it still must feel good to be wanted, even in a country like Turkey.

Haters, hate. However, if Jozy turns it around, and gets some PT, then it’ll be worth it.

Clarinet and drum guy are awesome.

  4. Here you go. Keep in mind this is a translation of a translation so it may sound bad but you get the idea 😛

Turk: Altidore has just arrived at the airport. He will now begin an interview with the press.

    CUT TO:

Turk: What are your thoughts on playing for Bursaspor?

Altidore : I heard nothing but good things about Bursa. I am very excited to play football in this city. Bursaspor’s value is on the rise and I am happy to be a part of this team.

T: How much do you know about Bursaspor, the champions of last year?

A: I was following their Champion’s League Games. Although they did not get good scores, they played good football. This excites me because I like playing good football as well. I hope I can contribute for another championship this year.

T: You are young, what are your goals?

A; To work hard! This is great opportunity for me to be a good player by working hard. Bursa is a great team and they have many supporters. I believe this is the ideal place for me.

  5. At least that dude wasn’t playing the skin flute. (first mission Jozy…hit Kenny Miller over the head with that drum. Then you can start)

  6. Awesome. I wonder if I go to Turkey if I could get a band to play when I get off of the plane. 🙂 Anyway I hope he gets plenty of playing time(which I believe he will with Miller beside him), and is coming on strong for the Gold Cup!! Forza Bursaspor???

  7. Now THAT’s the kind of welcome I want when I come back to Newark from Columbus… At least Jozy’s acting like he’s having fun.

  8. Wow. That clip is awesome. He is in total culture shock. He is going to be in for a very interesting time. I’ve been to Istanbul and parts of Turkey, and it is truly a crazy, crazy place. Tons of fun, though. The fans are pretty crazy.

Also, that clarinet player is the bomb.

  9. I have no idea what was said, but Altidore received a clarinet-and-drum reception, which is the Turkish way of saying “You’re a big deal.”

  11. He doesn’t seem terribly enthusiastic, but at least the fans were. It’s a good opportunity for access to Champions League play if he sticks.

  12. There’s a few English speakers on the team. Notably, Kenny Miller, who he might partner with up front. He was teammates with Mo Edu at Rangers.
